V4 Test Ride On A Multi V4

  1. No, it's still not legal in the UK and with the current parliamentary schedule wanting to look at and totally ban the sale and fitting of non compliant exhausts, likely to be increasingly clamped down on in the not too distant future, all in the name of improving the environment. Andy

  3. Tbh this is nothing new “NOT FOR ROAD USE” isn’t something new, I was sanding those stamps off with wet n dry over 20 years ago.

  4. Yeah but what happens when your insurance is cancelled when you have an accident and they refuse to pay out and your £20k pride and joy is worth ZERO ?

  5. Don’t think so.
I cancelled the order for the full system as was told not to fit it by me dealer as it would fuck up my insurance.

  6. Don’t disagree but the winds of change are gathering force with the local bans on motorcycles in areas of Europe and what seems a committed desire to stamp out the antisocial minority of motorcyclists here in the UK on the established biker roads including routes like the Scottish 500. 7. Exactly, you take your chances with anything like that because chances are you didn’t tell the insurance company that it’s fitted and that it’s not road legal.

trashing your bike and it being not insured is the least of your worries if a third party is involved!

this has been discussed at great length elsewhere on here (might be the pikes peak thread? Can’t remember right now)

  8. Yes, it was the Pikes Peak thread

  9. I agree, when I bought a new Z1000SX in 2017, I went for the performance option which came with tinted screen, a few other bits and a pair of carbon Akrapovic end cans. You could purchase the same cans separately from Akropovic and when you did they had a rubber gromet in the end cap, you could take it off and with a long screwdriver remove the holding screw for the DB killers. The official Kawasaki supplied ones didn’t have this access hole. To remove the DB killers you had to either guess where to drill or drill out the band rivets and take off the end cap to get to the screw so I think manufacturers have been gearing themselves up for this for a while now?

  10. I am averaging between 40 - 45 mpg according to the bike, varies according to how you ride and that is mostly on Touring mode. The fuel light comes on at about 150m and there is at least another 30 in the tank, so 180 is what I am seeing as real world range. Most I have put in the tank is just under 18.5 litres and it said 2 miles to go to empty, maybe it will do 200 but I'm not going to try it :)

When you fill up it says 223 range - as you leave the forecourt it will drop to 200 - not worked that one out yet!

  11. It’s an instantaneous reading based on fuel level sensor reading, gear, revs and speed and you don’t get many miles to the gallon in first :D Andy

  12. I was leant a V4s Panigale whilst my bike was being serviced a couple of years ago, this was when the V4 Multistrada rumours were are fever pitch. Thought that the engine would be great in a Multi. When it came around to it, and after a decent test ride on a V4s Mutley, there were a few things that put me off; a/ I had my 1260 fully sorted and exactly how I want it, b/ it does everything I need out of a bike so the V4 would be a complete indulgence, which follows onto c/ the cost of change and the real difference it would make to my riding experience just didn't stack up for me. Finally d/ the looks just don't do it for me with the possible improvement in the form of the PP helping a little but return to c/ with knobs on.

Will be sticking with the 1260, all kudos those that have bought one though, undeniably a great bike.

  13. That exactly and for me, no further justification is required. Andy

  14. Having your insurance voided by an insurance company, which is possible if you don't tell them its fitted, would cause all sorts of issues for many years after. Its always one of the questions an insurance company will ask you when you go for a quote. If the answer is Yes, then the quote will go no further.

  16. I came from a GS to the V4 as I test ride everything as wanted a change . The Gs was and still is a great bike and to find a bike that was as comfortable as the the Gs was proving hard . The V4 fitted the bill , all day comfort , handling to dream of , and nice bits to use . I did have a 1200s a few years back but it was lumpy , uncomfortable with the banana nut crusher seat and the suspension was okay but without specialist adjustment and tuning average . The V4 out of the box is sublime. A great all round bike that performs truely where it says All roads ,which did always make me wonder about the 1200 as it was awful on the rough roads .

  17. Had one as a courtesy bike while a warranty job done on the monster, yes a great ride, but compared to the monster it was a bit soul less.
To be honest I was glad to get the monster back.

  18. I’ve done the same - come back to a Multistrada after swapping my MTS1200 for a succession of GSs, culminating in a 1250. Initial impressions of the V4S are very positive. Comfort is very good, engine is clearly going to be sublime as it loosens up and the interface with all the electronics is way more intuitive than the BMW wonder-wheel.

Three things strike me so far.
    1. The gear box is not great - it may loosen up.
    2. The fuel range is poor - it needs to learn to drink less or get a bigger tank!
    3. The suspension is not as good as the GS at smoothing out imperfections - maybe it needs further adjustment but out of the box I think the GS suspension is better.

Overall though, so far I am impressed…

  19. Hmm , maybe after a few more miles it will get better , for me the gear box is super smooth , effortless changes compared to the Bm , fuel , ill give you that one lol. The suspension is , for me , better than the Bm , I miss the sureity of the front on the bm but the Sky Hook works so well and is like silk and when pushed seems to stay as smooth and unflustered.
Took a while to adjust to dive on the front compared to the Gs but now find its a positive as you seem to get more feed back . I never thought I would find a bike better than the Gs and an overall ride but the V4 has done this , for me anyway.
Any bike is good , as long as you enjoy it.

  20. RBD you've only just run it in! :)
    - Gearbox needs revs to work seamlessly
    - My fuel range is about 180, then we both need a drink :)
    - The suspension may need tweaking bit it is firmer than a GS and handles better than a GS :)
