2020 Panigale V4 Won't Start !

  1. I still think 12.1 is low for a fully charged battery. That’s only about 20 percent charged. Mine are usually around 12.6 at rest.

  2. Spoke to Ducati John today, as Stated above he was really nice bloke but unfortunately not really set up for modern Ducatis. As soon as I said V4 he said......I'll stop you there :joy:

Was worth a try but its now booked in for 12th May. Its got a recall outstanding for a gear sensor switch or whatever it is, so they can do that while they see why its not firing up! Hoping its nothing major......can't be on a 2 year old bike with 2600 miles on the clock surely but we shall see:confused:

  3. I really hope you get it sorted out.

  4. Did you measure that new battery voltage before you fitted it? My new Yuasa has a sticker in it saying if below 12.4V it needs a charge before fitting. It was at 12.4V, so I charged it... After that charge it was sitting around 12.9V off the bike.

  5. Ducati Manchester prepped the battery for me, they charged it and I collected it the day after ordering. When I got it home I put it on my charger on and it was showing fully charged but topped it up anyway. Put it in the bike and on battery info it was showing 12.1.

  6. Do you have a Digital Volt Meter ? I don’t think the reading on the bike display is particularly accurate. Measure the voltage across the battery terminals and measure the voltage drop when you press the starter. If the voltage drops into 11v, it isn’t enough. I appreciate you bought the battery from a main dealer and they prepped it for you but that is no guarantee the battery is good. Hope you get it sorted. Andy

  7. I'm ashamed to say I don't have multi/volt meter!!:scream:

Having mainly owned Japanese bikes, couple of Aprilia and a fear of anything electrical I've never really had the need for one before! I've got about 10 of them in my ebay watch list now!!! :joy:

Some better news on the horizon though, Spoke to Ducati Manchester again this morning to say I wasn't very happy that the battery I've bought off them is no better than the old one, they said let's get it in on 12th and get it looked at, we'll replace the battery again if that's the problem and a two year old bike will still be covered by warranty so it'll be fine:p I said there lies the problem, it was registered new April 12th 2020 so when it comes in it'll be a month out of warranty! :astonished:

He said don't worry about that, its clearly nothing mechanical as its been running in between the start of the problem so we'll honour it!

Feel alot better about it now but I've still got to get the f'kin thing there !

  8. Do you have jump leads? Use your car battery jumped to it - and try turning over... as said it could be too low a voltage causing the ignition / fuel system not to work as it should while cranking.

  9. So after a new battery, new optimate 3 charger, a reading of 12.9 on the battery i got it running with a reading of 14.2 with the bike ticking over!!!

Following day......leathers on, bike wheeled out onto the driveway, the wife says "are you not going to start it up first just to see if it goes before you put all your gear on?" Nah it'll be right, we had it running yesterday was my response!!

Hit the starter, same problem as before:(

So she's finally going into Ducati Manchester tomorrow, getting the bike recovered under my breakdown cover, will just pretend I was going to work on it !!! :p

Its got a recall outstanding for a gear position sensor so it may be something to do with that Ducati said. Its also got a tracker so I'm having that removed also. Finally the thoroughly nice fellows have said we should be OK as the bike is only 3 weeks out of warranty, so hopefully lady luck will be on my side :relieved:

  11. RAC turned up half an hour ago, technician reckons its flooded!!

When I rang them I said to the call centre person too make sure you send a vehicle that can transport a motorcycle.......so what turns up?? A frigging transit with no room in it:astonished:

They've agreed to take it in but need to order suitable transporter. Good job I booked the day off work!!o_O

  12. Update on the bike, so I picked it up today and all is well. So what was the problem then.??? On Easter Monday I filled up with Texaco E10 from a petrol station near my house which I don't normally use. I then went and met my mate on his blade at our usual spot, however........the roads were wetter than either would like so the decision was made to turn back and go home!:(

It was following weekend where the problem started. There was me buying new battery, then a new charger. Got it running, then not running again. Ducati Manchester drained the tank, checked the plugs, filled her up with E5 super unleaded. Fired up first time!!!!!!:astonished:

Got to be dodgy batch of E10 or my bike just doesn't like it! One things for sure, I will never go to THAT petrol station for as long as I live:mad: lost a whole month of riding!!

Bike also had the recall gear position sensor, rear foot break light switch had failed and temperature gauge sensor was also faulty apparently so that got changed too.

All done under warranty which runs out on 10th June !! Full tank of E5 super in in too!!
Big thanks to everyone at Ducati Manchester for getting me back on the road in particular Chris in service department who even picked me up from home in his own car to enable me to ride the bike home:upyeah:

Best customer service I've ever received

  13. That e10 fuel is fucking shite .

I have so many cars in now with running problems due to e10 fuel

  14. I only use E10 in anything when there's no alternative bar walking. Even then, I stick a fiver in and fill with super as soon as possible.
I'm surprised it would actually stop your bike though, unless it was a bad batch

  15. Only other explanation really, had to be a bad batch ......or , left for a week to settle apparently the ethanol can separate in the tank! I'm no expert on the subject but I tried everyday for nearly two weeks to get the bike started, new battery, new charger because I thought my charger was goosed. Even invested in a multimeter, turns out battery was fine and I'm still running with my original battery now.

All they did was drain the tank and fill up with E5 super and all sorted! Been out on it for the first time in a month today and it felt so good!!!

Just glad it nothing to do with the bike though.......the stick I've had off my mates on the 1000rr forum :joy:

  16. Sounds like it must be the petrol alright, but I've not heard of many issues like that with E10 per se. I'd not use it myself if I can avoid it, but my 1098 and both 1200 BMW's ran happily on it where necessary.
