Hello All My 2019 Multistrada 1260S has just had its 18,000 mile Desmo Service. The bike is still at the Ducati Dealer with a problem they have been unable to fix. The bike was put back together after the service, but the fuel pump refused to prime. Bike cranks over OK, but of course does not start. The dealer has checked the fuel pump and it works and primes when attached to their diagnostic equipment, and I believe, when they power it independently of the wiring. I have been told that they have checked all the obvious bits like relays, wiring, connectors etc. that would have been touched or disconnected during the service. I have done a quick trawl through historic posts on here, and found references to the Fuel Pump Relay, the Side Stand Switch, and even possibly the Crank Sensor, but I wondered if anyone had any other thoughts that I could feedback to the dealer. Just for the record the bike has been faultless, apart from the usual minor niggles, since I purchased the bike two and a half years ago. Thanks in advance. Graham
I suggest that the dealer man up and remove all the parts they removed to service your bike and look at every aspect of the reassembly to diagnose the fault they created. "We don't know what the problem is" does not cut the mustard with me. Employ a mechanic not a button pusher. Andy
Which ducati dealership & I wouldn't be doing their job for them Graham. Leave them to correct it & honourably stick to the quoted service cost.
OK thanks for the feedback. The dealer is doing their bit to resolve the issue, and they won’t be charging me for fixing the issue that they acknowledge they introduced. I posted the above in the spirit of being helpful to the dealer, knowing that there are some very knowledgeable people that frequent this forum. Graham
That’s good then, glad to hear they’re open and honest the issue is of their doing, some would probably say “we are going to deliver the bike back to you, no charge” then they drop it off, run away and prey you don’t use it for a few days and then say “worked fine when we dropped it off?”
One man’s “good dealer” is another man’s “rubbish dealer”. However you can leave comments of your experience in the appropriate “dealer” section of the forum - https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/showcase/category/ducati-authorised-main-dealer-reviews.4/ ps. It’s also worth noting that the very nature of forums is that people are very quick to complain and not so quick to praise. Ducati know this.
If the pump itself tests out ok there are only 4 other factors that will prevent it priming. The relay, the side stand switch, the ECU itself and the wiring, to any of these and to the pump. A faulty or disconnect crank sensor won't prevent it priming at ignition on but will stop the relay energising when the engine turning which it normally does. If there are sparks then the sidestand switch and relay are ok leaving only the wiring from the relay to the pump as suspect. One other easily overlooked point I nearly forgot. The ECU earth! If that isn't making a good connection the relay won't switch on, the pump won't prime and there will be no sparks.
Well 'Cynic' is my middle name, however I have to say my Ducati dealer experience so far has been very positive. Perhaps I have just been lucky?
Well... I bought an 'interim' bike, so something they'd taken in PX and out to me without as much as a glance. They agreed a buy back, subject to a certain max mileage to avoid the desmo service. Delivered with a squared off rear tyre, but sort of ignored it, went on a trip, punctured the front and realised the rear was a nightmare to ride with. Fuel sender failed after 30 miles, so insulation tape over the dash. Scottoiler spat its dummy out on the B&B parking lot. Chain had a flat spot. Miles crept up and obvious I'll exceed the agreed max, so it's back with them as I'm happy to invest a bit until new one lands. Sprockets, chain, desmo, two tyres, fuel sensor. All I have is a 'we'll look after you'. We shall see... Oh and backorder on parts means it'll be there a while
Black Box System. It can cause many issues but I don't think the pump not priming is one of them, and it usually throws up CANbus errors.
