MTS 1200s 2013 with Sachs Skyhook suspension In need of urgent advice and assistance. Lately the rear shock feels, if I can find the right words, very “marshmallow”. I have tried different combinations of damping but still is not right. Changing from from one mode to another I can hear the hissing sounds - so something is working. I took some height measurements (bike on side stand) with default preloads. Urban -Preload 1 - to Touring Preload 8 = 4mm difference Touring to Sport -Preload 16 = 1mm Sport to Enduro Preload 24 = 6mm Therefore Preload 1 to Preload 24 = 11mm Also, I noticed with ignition off the rear shock is not as hard as I remember (unless my memory fails me with ignition off the suspension is almost solid). Please watch the short video bouncing the bike with ignition off and ignition on and let me know how it compares with yours. Please download video from here (as I have failed miserably trying to insert the video via Dailymotion). https://mega.nz/file/rJ1iWQSL#mkm1Si-4xb_SmHYfsP7LaeS-x3I_z8603OHF_nF_O40
Sounds like something is wrong. Could the gas in the shock be low?? Don’t know if these can be rebuilt.
Same happened to me. Rear shock unserviceable, or it was s couple of years ago. Someone maybe able to do it but don't get your hopes up. I replaced with a 2nd hand one from ebaY, £150. Very expensive new. Fairly easy swap once you've got the lower bolt out.
@gmoss - I was afraid of that. The number on your link is 36521463A which is for the Multistrada 1200 Enduro - 2016. The number on mine is 36521112A. Do you think the Enduro one can be used on mine - 1200s 2013-14 year?
Just for completeness... Shock removed, after a lot of fighting with a seized up lower bolt, and sent to T-Tech Suspension for repair. Shock repaired and returned to me very quickly - actually was repaired during the weekend (received by T-Tech on Friday and back to me on Tuesday) - excellent service and great communication by Luke, T-Tech. The shock, although no external leaks, it was well damaged inside. The following were put right:- Internal damage to the piston, base valve, pitted shaft and lower bearing corroded New aluminium piston ( upgrade with stabilising ring ).. Shaft rod hard chrome plating. Gas cap with nitrogen port. Bearing. Shock put back on bike making sure things don't seize up again - Set shock to default values and rode a couple of hundred miles during the weekend for a good test. It feels like a brand new shock. The final repair cost was a lot higher than T-Tech's standard rebuilt cost but considering the price for a new one and parts used on mine it was reasonable. Do I recommend T-Tech? Yes I do!
OK. The standard straightforward rebuild is £170. Now, with the shaft re-chrome, new bearing, new piston and cap it came to the grand total of - £320. Almost double but reasonable considering how much they cost new and how difficult to find a second hand one.
My guesstimate….normally c£150 tops to rebuild a shock provided nothing really needs replacing other than seals. So £200…
@bradders - wish I didn't say how much now.. only joking . Jobs done! Now back to square one trying to re-adjust sag and damping.
It feels great - like new! I wish I had it done a year ago... instead of trying to compensate by increasing preloads etc.
Tbh makes me more confident t about buying a used one now. I loved skyhook, best out there, but always worried about the electronics related to shock etc. sensors are quite cheap iirc, and if a shock can be rebuilt happy days!
That's good to know @Stavrich, one of my only reservations over buying an S model MTS and now I know that refurb is a possibility. Thanks for posting.
Could T tech not have supplied a heavier spring, they obviously know what there doing and I still don't think anyone has found a heavier progressive rate spring. And thanks for finding this company, I'm sure another of us will sleep better knowing they can be fixed
They do supply heavier springs and in different colours as well. My rear preload now is on 18, sport and touring solo and on 20 for solo with luggage.
