Belt Change

  1. On my 1200s DVT the date service warning has come up before its due based on mileage.
I wondered how much safety factor is in there.
I understand the importance of the belts, that's not in question, how far can they really go?
There must be some extreme examples out there.

  2. You,d think there would be quite a lot for obvious reasons. When I did my belts they looked pretty good. One of those things you don’t want to push though o_O

  3. Pretty much every belt I've taken off has been in one piece... when the bike has been brought in running ;) They're a service item, not a consumable. There's always a "safety margin" and I've seen a few pushed quite a way, time or mileage, but that's not the point. The limits are "safe". Push past that at your own risk.

  4. I'm aware of the risk, just wondered how far the belts could go.

  5. To be honest Mike, that's the million $ question. Depends on use (track/road), cycles (long infrequent runs or more regular short runs), even how they were fitted and to which end of the tension tolerance they were done up to. I wouldn't try and call it and always advise folk to stick to schedule. I've rebuilt far too many motors that "pushed" their luck.

  6. I will stick to the schedule, not looking to push my luck.
