This is one from my daughter’s fellas Dads collection. Due for a ride/drive shortly, so I’ll be sure to post. It’s a 5.7ltr Cleveland GT40 replica, built by the guys that made the cars for the Le Mans 66 film. It’s apparently exact race build & one of only five true 40” replicas. I can only guess at its value but close to £350k I believe View attachment 268549
Gorgeous looking cars, but at my age if I actually managed to be lucky enough to get into the car, I’d need major assistance to get out again.
Having a beer (or 2) in the Premier Inn at Gatwick North terminal. Early start tomorrow, 11:45am flight Andy
Well today I attended the North “We Ride As One” ride (https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threa...orld-meet-to-celebrate-ducati-together.91079/) The day started at 7.30am for me and it was a good days riding apart from the last bit. Having ridden up to Hawes for lunchtime we then rode on to Settle. I left Settle with two lads around 1.30pm, one I knew (Mark) and his mate who I didn’t know……Mark was leading, his mate second, me third……….the lad in 2nd place had a heart attack while riding in front of me, veered across the road (about 1.5 miles outside Settle), I went round him to the left not knowing what was happening (I thought he was having mechanical problems), I then looked back in my mirror, saw a car swerve to miss him, then saw him veering into a dry stone wall. I stopped my bike and ran to see him on the floor with the bike on top of him, another biker stopped and we lifted the bike off him and called the emergency services. 3 ambulances, 6 police cars and air ambulance attended, and carried out cpr for 40 mins or so……but the poor fella passed away! Obviously I had to give an eye witness statement and eventually left at 4pm. Mark was broken. I’m ok thankfully. After given statements etc I left to go to my granddaughter’s birthday party in Leeds which is where I was heading from Settle. Fucker of a day really!
I was hoping to attend, but the bike is still in the workshop at Preston awaiting sprockets. Something very similar happened a couple of months ago to one of our regular riding trio, but thank god, he's made a pretty decent recovery (loss of consciousness requiring CPR (still undiagnosed), broken vertebrae in back and neck and a broken hand. Due to the location, the emergency services took quite a while, but the police were fantastic when they did arrive and my other mate is a time served paramedic, so that helped too. Have to say, the public really rallied round too, initially with traffic, moving bike etc., then actually popping back with hot drinks whilst awaiting assistance. Sorry to hear that OP.
Sorry to hear this, pass on my condolences to his family and hope you and Mark are feeling as best you can in the circumstance's.
My God, I’m so sorry to hear this and sorry you had to witness it. Condolences to your mate Mark and all who knew the other Guy, you just never know when your time is up.
So sorry to read that Terry, it can’t be very nice for you and must be a heck of a thing for your mate and the lads family. How old was he Terry.
I believe he was 58yo. But I guess it could have happened if he was sat on the sofa watching TV. I’ve just spoken with Mark who said that his mate seemed fine and was buzzing about the ride out in the petrol station in Settle where we all filled up. The petrol station was literally 1.8 miles from where it happened…….I know that as I’d reset my trip meter after filling up. So he must’ve felt ill very soon after leaving there.
You get up in the morning looking forward to doing something you love doing, then this shit happens. Life bloody sucks on times.
I went out on the DOC ride from Worcester today and we enjoyed a fantastic ride, with great company in beautiful weather. I can’t imagine Terry what an awful day you ended up having by comparison. My condolences to the poor guy and his family. A reminder to us all to seize the day.
As I said last night poor Mark is devastated as he not only lost his friend but brought back some memories…….it was the 10th anniversary of his 15yo sons death also from a heart attack only a few days ago. His son was a fit athlete, and on team GB’s cycling team, so he was a talented lad too. Both things are/were tragic. I woke up a couple of times during the night thinking about it but I’m ok really. I’ll offer to take Mark out for a coffee during the week when the dust has settled so he can talk about it and get things off his chest. edit: though the reporting in this article is guesswork it looks like they finally opened the road around 9pm - https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/local-news/live-a65-shut-serious-crash-23893553
I would love to know what all the locals think about all those wonderful bikes arriving all at once in their town.?
Bloody Nora must have been one hell of a shock for you Really puts things in to perspective Glad you’re ok
