I’m surprised it’s taken so long Apple to discontinue the iPod after 21 years https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-61401626
Still have my iPod shuffle plug into the Stag. I don’t suppose these have sold much in recent years but, like you ET I’m surprised it’s taken so long.
Guess it was inevitable as the iPhone took over and the last bastions for iPods, kids, started wanting iphones at 10yrs old. Still got my 6th Gen Nano, it’s connected to a radio in the summerhouse
We have a couple of brand new iPods in the cupboard somewhere. Never been out the packaging. Some suppliers of my wife's place of work give them out as gifts. Completely useless now but kept unopened might be worth a few quid in years to come.
Ipods are still popular with audiophiles and I have six of them, all fifth generation. You can still get parts for them and I have made a bit of cash by refurbishing a few and selling them off, again all fifth generation. I think it's the DAC chip, but could be wrong, that provides better listening than a phone, hence why they are popular. It's also possible to upgrade them with a solid-state board instead of the 2 1/2" hard drive as standard, this can give a much greater song capacity etc.
