Did all the frames have a riveted number id tag 2 of or 2 stickers left and right side of the headstock and did they do a half faired 1V model gold frame.
As far as I'm aware all Superlights mk1 to mk5 were all fully faired. Obviously some 900ss were available half faired so maybe a superlight with a ss half fairing?.
No got this of goggle just to show both id tags, whilst looking at what's for sale i spotted something that didn't look right with what little knowledge i have on the 900ss range
This is the bike i was looking at and I'm not trying to ruin the seller as if not correct they might not know or possible its an import? or i just don't know what I'm looking at and all is correct if so ive learnt a bit more If you look at the top yoke photo you can make out a frame "sticker" to the left and not on the right side , The two side on photos of left and right sides i can see brackets of what could be for the bolts of a half fairing ? just under the petrol tank frame rail. Ducati 900 SS Superlight IV (1996/N) Poss PX?
Well spotted with those fairing tabs, perhaps if you do Facebook then contact Steve; https://www.ducati900sl.com/
Good link that thanks, looking on there i can see a lot of half fairing Superlights so possible the full fairing has been added to the one on ebay.
I'm with Sev on all superlights leave the factory with FULL fairing with NO extra metal frame tabs attached, but sometimes ignorance's bliss in life.
That sounds encouraging, but remember one thing he's a saleman that needs to shift the product out of the doors.
Thanks Sev very informative and helpful I've not had a reply to my questions on Sunday and that was before i posted this thread, if and when i get a reply then i will ask more
I think some of the later Mk IV's and the MkV's had a sticker on the L/H side of the headstock (aft looking fwd) rather than a riveted plate on both sides of the headstock, possibly concurrent with the introduction of the matt gold frame. I imagine the data plate rivet holes were drilled without proper deburring so not a great idea to introduce a stress raiser in that area of the frame with a pre-existing history of cracking, or it may be the bean counters realised a cost saving in a sticker over a stamped data plate secured with rivets both in terms of manufacturing cost and labour. Always the possibility it's had a replacement frame under warranty (or not) due to cracking round the headstock. The number plate shows it was first registered in the Severn Valley (Worcester DVLA office), and gov website shows first registration in May 96. Looks like it has the correct cast iron full floating rotors, but if they are the originals, at 41k miles they may be past their best, due to the bobbins galling on the alloy carriers. MOT history shows it failed an MOT in 2019 for front disk wear, but subsequently passed a few days later with disc wear as an advisory. Not sure what happened there, but even new, cast iron floaters appear knackered....
Interesting looking on one of the Gov sites and i think it might have answered one of my questions i asked, which was how long has he owned it, site mentions last date v5, logbook was issued 1st April 2022, he could have lost it. i knew about the mot check but you have found a lot more info.
That will be the MOT test not having come across fully floating disks before. Always got an advisory with both bikes before I changed MOT tester
