On the (slightly) less controversial point of mods... each to their own of course, but... Forksprings are very hard Rear spring is very soft So at least the front or the back or both springs could be changed (preload adjustment is only really right if the springs are in the zone), then set it up for your riding style / usage with the ride height etc. Make sure the suspension (and steering damper is serviced) A friend swears by his new radial master cylinde, if you wanted to go further, you could go to the 4 pad calipers off the 999 and other Ducatis. Possibly gear it down slightly (+2 on the back) Good tyres of course (180/60 works well on the rear, but might foul the hugger)
