Looking for some advise from those with experience please. I am looking at the available comfort seat (on the Ducati website), part number 96880671A https://www.ducati.com/gb/en/accessories/ACC012376 Is this a valuable improvement over the standard seat? It says its 20mm higher and with better foam, but is the profile different or will I still slide forwards into the tank? Thanks.
The part numbers are different but the seats are similar I believe - here's the V2S seat standard vs comfort ... I no longer slide into the tank at all. And combined with seat raisers makes me much more comfortable.
Thanks Ian. The profile does look flatter! I've put the seat raisers in already, but still slide forward on the standard seat. I am not sure how it compares the Touratech seat (that's now out of production), be interest to hear opinions of anyone whos tried both?
The newer Ducati branded Comfort seat is an improvement, but see if you can get hold of one of the Touratech versions that Ducati originally sold with the DVT and 1260 (it fits either). They were a bit better than the newer version, they pop up on here secondhand fairly often. @Sam1199 has designed a custom version: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/1260-custom-seat.89362/#post-1927512
Thanks - they seem to be like rocking horse poo! When they do come up they are either snapped up straight away or expensive! I've messaged Sam and he's getting back to me - just exploring options!
It was only when I took the Touratech seat off my 1260 and went for a 200 mile ride with the standard seat that I realised how brilliant the Touratech seat really is. Try and hold out for one of those if you can.
I am after some decision support please! I now have 3 available options: New Ducati performance seat for about £200 Custom modification to my existing seat for about £150 Second hand Touratech seat for about £200 Will a used Touratech's foam have flattened? If so will it recover / mold to my butt? It seems hard to justify the same price for 5 year old seat as a new one - is the Touratech that much better? Is custom going to be better than either of the other options?
The custom seat will depend a lot on what you're getting. Some just re-cover your existing seat. Some provide new foam. Some provide foam and a new cover. Some do gel inserts.
I was suprised how firm the Touratech seat was when I got it but it is infinately more comfortable to sit on day after long day when on tour. Mine was purchased used from a member on here and has been in use on my. Multistrada since early 2019. No sign of it changing, getting softer or collapsing. As good as it ever was. The custom seat will depend on a lot of variables as to materials and who makes it. If that's the way you go do it on a recommendation you trust.
Is this one of @Sam1199 ’s seats? Apparently it is a big improvement. I have the Touratech and have used in on two bikes for about 6 years, I guess it might have moulded to my shape but it’s still excellent. I know @TonyMNo1 bought one and I think he didn’t like it so it’s a very personal opinion. All I know is the original seats just crushed my nuts!
What @Twin4me said. I sit further back on the seat in comparison the the standard affair, so family jewels are relatively unscathed.
I had a new Touratech on my 1260 back in 2018 and it was excellent, you can get them re-profiled with new memory foam so second hand one would be a good bet. Personally I would buy the new Ducati Performance seat, that should be a good option and if not get it reprofiled to suit your riding position, at least with a a new seat you know the base is good and hasn't been bent with a ferry tie down!
I got mine shaped and recovered by Steve/ S.A.S Autotrim Motorbike Seats in Wales Flatter and taller I,m happy with the outcome
I have a virtually new Touratech seat I would sell. Its covered maybe 20 miles max. I took it off mine ( I have a 1200 DVT but the Touratech fits 1200 and 1260) cos it raised the seat height too much. The profile is different to the stock seat in that it does not lean you into the tank. Its still new firm and wants using to break it in. 160 quid could take it if you are not across water. The only reason I hadn't advertised it is basically laziness Seeing I just dug it out, I will stick an advert in the for sale area
