That helps a lot, thank you. You have literally just hit the nail on the head for me. I have had an inkling that I may well have the same sentiments as you and that if I change to the PP then it will change the whole dynamic, which as I have said, I am enjoying. I have had the conversation around the fact that in a year I may have no inclination to 'upgrade' due to the enjoyment I am getting from the V4S. That fact I live in Norfolk and there's rarely a smooth road in sight is also a deciding factor. I don't miss the vague disconnect that I sometimes had on rough roads with the Panigale V4S at speed which they clearly aren't designed for, more like skittering over the top than planted. A lot of it is the aesthetics as well. The PP is drop dead gorgeous, but that said I do see that Vulturebike have some great fairing kits, just no single sided swingarm. A nicer problem to have.........
Useful post thanks. I’m always interested in hearing alternative views/reviews and your suspension verdict does make sense. That said, it sounds like the Ohlins will suit my riding style better and the types of regular trips I’ll be doing. Time will tell. All I need now is the bike lol. Called up to collect my 1260S ‘Inbetweener’ yesterday and my dealer is a little cooler on mine arriving in July. They’ve had one PP delivered from the factory so far out of 20+ orders…….
Hope it helps , I just find you can push harder on the back roads and twistys on the V4s as it can be hammered into the bends and out without any issues , super stable and perhaps let down by tyre choice but im at the limit and in the high rev ranges on spirted sections and it keeps giving more and more , both are great bikes just the V4s lives up to the All Roads concept better than its pimped up sister lol.
I've swapped the tyres on my V4S to Angel GT2's (19/17) and they make a big (positive) difference to overall agility the way it tips in. Highly recommend them.
When out on the demo V4s I had a moment where the front went a little vague on a slight lean at a bit of pace. I have put this down to the tyre (Pirelli trail) , as none of the reviews say there is an issue with the bike. On a youtube where the MCN editor is being interviewed by Michael Neaves; he says he changed the tyres to the Dunlop Mutants, for better feel. I am interested in any reviews and posts where multi riders have tried other tyres from the originals
I doff my cap to you. A lot of people wouldn’t admit the better bike isn’t actually better, especially after the furore over the 19” wheel. I hope with the waiting list as long as it is the used value was strong and you didn’t get shafted too much on the exchange back to a v4s.
Reducing the tyre pressures on the standard Pirelli’s makes a huge difference to the vagueness feel..
I have never tried the Pirelli Scorpion Trails on my V4S as I hate so called "dual purpose" tyres - not good at one thing or the other - IMO. I had Michelin Road 5's fitted from new as 99% of my riding miles are on tarmac, the other 1% is in car parks . Never had an issue with the Road 5's (apart from two rear punctures). I have had the TC come on at the exit of a tight bend a couple of times when still lent over a bit, the bike was still rock steady though. I would definitely recommend road tyres on the V4S.
I don’t think it’s about being better , if you’re used to riding a bike fast with a big front wheel , like a GS or a KTM , then it’s no surprise to go back. It’s a personal thing. I’ve always preferred 17” wheels. Some don’t
I know how you feel. Have bought a V4S as an inbetween bike!! My PP will come..................................eventually
