Firstly, remember that an EPROM is a data storage device - kinda like a USB stick. "genuine" ducati original part or not - it doesn't matter, so long as it contains the correct data/software for running the ECU, and that the chip is of the correct specification. Kie, I have a '94 916 Strada running 50mm pipes, and can burn you copies of the the original chips (standard and/or open exhaust) for the cost of the postage and parts, which will be *much* lower than any retailer. Drop me a message if this helps. Regards, Mike
Mike, Allow me to quickly disagree with the « It doesn’t matter » part of your statement. It does matter to some of us, as we may be looking for OEM and/or NOS chips for our own pleasure/reasons. I for one did not really care at all, to be honest, until I got my SP3. Now, I find myself caring because I want this bike to remain perfect and retain its collectible value as much as possible. I know it may sound stupid, but I can’t help it. G
Perhaps I should have been clearer that I was really talking about the functional aspect of the EPROM. However - I applaud your attention to detail, which I also try to achieve where reasonable on my bikes - though above all, they must remain functional for road use. All personal views and preferences though.
Absolutely! And I totally agree with the functional approach being the most important. Originality comes second, but may be less so depending on bikes and owners. It does matter though.
My 916 was hopelessly modified centuries ago. She is just for riding now. Varese purists avert your eyes. A faux-chip in my P8 can certainly be tolerated. @hindsight I can’t believe how you’ve helped me. So grateful! The fact that my good friends are on holiday in Edinburgh right now is a strange bit of fate.
