Isle of Man TT: Olivier Lavorel dies after TT sidecar race crash https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/motorsport/61691182
I doubt it would be scrapped on those grounds, only once it becomes a loss making enterprise would be my guess.
This is a valid point for me, if many deaths on one day (of course, one is too many) then there could be a media wake-up call that might force the authorities hand. I remember the F1 fatalities in the 60's and 70's and just one death would shake the motoring world far more than today, does make you wonder how many is too many.
I hope it stays, but with society the way it is now, do wonder how long it’ll be before big brother decides enough is enough.
Horses don’t have a choice. IMO, the riders know and accept the risks, same as we do on the roads. If you ban the TT or motorsport in general, you’ll have to ban any pursuit or job or anything that is potentially life-threatening. It’s not that I’m devoid of sympathy for these guys, I think it’s tragic, but they’re doing something they are clearly passionate about whilst being fully aware of how it could end.
No, just the ones with a high death rate, if at all. Like I said, I really hope they don’t, as I thoroughly enjoy watching it, but in this molly coddled can’t do this or say that age, I fear it’s only a matter of time.
I wouldn’t think the Grand National horse race would be banned, maybe sacked off if one day in the far far future the event didn’t turn a profit? But an event with such a global following and millions in turn over it is doubtful Something along the lines of the TT.
