Melted Indicator - Monster 1200s

  1. Hi all,
I wanted to see if anyone else with this monster has experienced the same thing.
When I bought this bike 18 months ago with 4,400 miles on it, I noticed that the rear right indicator had what looked like a smoked lens in comparison to the others which were clear. It is running the standard exhaust, though I did have a set of SC Project carbon cans on it briefly until the bracket sheared.
Going over the bike at the weekend I pulled the indicator off to have a closer look... IMG_20220606_152434.jpg

From the top it doesn't look too bad, though you can see the housing has melted a little.

When I turned it over, the other side looked like someone had held a lighter to it!

A new indicator is on its way, and I suppose I wanted to see if this is another Ducati foible or if mine is running unusually hot to do this.

  2. I had the same issue with my old multistrada and termignoni fitted, although it didn’t melt the indicator just tinted the lens.

  3. I have a M1200S with termis and the indicator lens is smoked but hasn’t melted at all. It hasn’t been an issue during MOTs or I’d have done something about it.

  4. I don't think I have any problems but I will check it out, thanks for posting.

  5. I had the same issue with mine. It did melt the numberplate though until I fitted a sheet of aluminium behind it.

  6. Thanks for the responses, it's good to know that "they all do that sir".

I will get some of the thin stick on heat insulation for the underside of the indicator and use the rest to try and isolate the rear brake lines from the heat of the pipes!

  7. Checked mine yesterday after my ride out, no problems at all.
