Hi new to the group, I have owned my 2014 ducati multistrada1200s from new 20500miles this weekend out on the bike i heard a intermittent knoking noise and felt knocking through the foot pegs i stopped as quickly as i could switched the engine off checked all round the bike could not see anything untoward went to start up the engine but the starter turned over but engine would not turn. Got recovered home and removed the side right hand engine cover and found the crankshaft broken where the generator / flywheel is bolted on. Has anyone on here had or heard of this happening before, Bike has had all services. Crankshafts should not break like that with so little miles, very sad weekend for me.
Yes - there was another lad who nicknamed his Faultystrada who had a similar issue - he had some issues - but as his was on finance Black Horse Stepped in. Have a search - cant recall his user name but JH rings a bell - i will have a search.
Thanks I'll have a look through my bike is all paid up so think I'll have to email Ducati and see what they say can't be right that a bike like this can just snap a crankshaft must be a faulty part.
I hope Ducati have a sympathetic ear here with a view to repair support. A difficult call considering mileage.
I panicked, read that it was a snapped crankshaft and thought it might have been someone on here who has an R1, as they like to do that! Yeah I remember the guy mentioned above, he had issues, suspected that it was a bearing failure which in effect 'dropped' the crank and snapped it. Hope the thread links help, that's an example of where financing bikes actually does help..
Your past the 6 year Consumer Rights Act legislation so it would purely be at Ducati’s discretion I’m afraid.
Engine out ready for Ducati to examine, been on to Ducati and they need to see the engine and determine what caused the crank to break.
