1200 Flickering Neutral Light

  1. A new sensor will fix it.

  2. How much is a new sensor?

  3. £101

  4. Ouch! I only ask because mine flickered slightly between neutral and second yesterday.

  5. mine has started this today. As OP states high heat London traffic. God I hate London. I just spent loads of money sorting it out and now another issue. Wouldn’t be as annoyed but I only replaced the gear sensor not that many miles ago.

  6. Hi there!
Old thread... but this attach can be usefull. Tecnical Ducati Paper about re-calibrate gearing sensor. Sometimes isn't necesary to change the sensor, the procedure as the document describes maybe the solution.
    Regards.

  7. Hi mate, I appreciate you sending that. I unfortunately don’t have a method of putting the bike in calibration mode. I have used Melcodiag before but it doesn’t run on iOS which is all I have at the minute. But thank you. I look and only replaced the sensor two years ago. Less than 500 miles ago.

  8. Hi, Thanks for posting this up but have you or anybody done this, Ive just tried and several times and cant even get the gear indicator to go flashing C part 3, so obviously cant complete the rest.

  9. So by this you need another way of putting the bike into Calibration mode, just following the steps in the service bulletin wont work ?

  10. I've tried this recalibration method (clutch in until it should start the calibration process) and it simply didn't work. I've just (today) replaced my Hyper939 gear-pos sensor (it's simply a linear variable resistor) and my local indie says if it doesn't work correctly straight away, he can pop his diagnostics on it.
I'm wondering whether UK bikes have somehow got this procedure locked out:thinkingface:
By the way, mine was causing 'confusion' when hot, not cold. It's a poor adaptation to make use of the old neutral-switch gearbox hole...

  11. There's a YT video with some English guy showing how to recalibrate. Saw it long ago and worth a search.

  13. As far as I’m aware, you need a way of putting the bike into calibration mode. Apparently a new sensor can sometime trigger it. If the bike reads no issue though then you need software. I believe Melcodiag works but it needs window/android.

  14. The procedure I've attached (the Ducati Tech Bulletin) states clearly that the engine temp needs to be up in the 80s C, and that's the whole engine, not just the coolant as one reason for this going out of calibration is a poor design that doesn't take into account thermal expansion adequately. This is why some mechanics do this on a rolling road, to ensure engine temp is up before doing it. The process attached expressly states engine off, but key on. I think that I'll have to kick the re-cal system into action using someone's diagnostic tool...
