Has anyone watched any of this? Ive now watched two of these Women’s matches. And whilst I applaud the fact that Women’s football is increasing in popularity and there are a few “good players”, the quality in the main is way below the standard even of a Sunday morning kickabout on the local field by a group of 10 year olds. Don’t be so ridiculous. Women's football is shite… Sorry, that’s a no by the way. I don’t watch it. It’s a BBC thang. They pretend women’s football is great.
BBC are pushing harder than Michael Hutchins banged Kylie. Tried to watch a few over recent years. 14yr old lads teams would beat most of these top teams. And be more entertaining unfortunately. Imho they need to adjust the game to suit the play. Smaller pitches, smaller goals. I have friends who’s daughters play ‘to a good standard’, one is a pro. She is about 5’2 and size 6. So have to careful what I say…
I've not watched any but I have seen womens PL matches and enjoyed them. Certainly a lot less games(wo)manship than we see in the mens game. The standard isn't the same, but I just take it for what it is.
That’s exactly right. You can’t compare and you can’t watch and enjoy if you do. Funniest thing when they start demanding the same money tho. Tennis chucked men under the bus when they started giving same winners purse to women even though they play far less games.
It’s okay. Not sure why people get upset about tv channels promoting it. Atmosphere isn’t as toxic you don’t get players and fans being called vile shit because of the team they play for or support/come from and they are as committed to their profession as any man. Also let’s face it anyone who enjoys footy would rather watch womens footy than the current man yew mens team (and other equally shite teams of crabs). What’s not to like etc…
Sports are a commodity like (sadly) everything else. Women's tennis may be shorter matches than mens, but the public pay the ticket prices and like it every bit as much. So no buses thrown imo, its simple money making -more top flight womens matches equals more revenue to the tour/ promoters etc... Besides the attention span of many people is similar to that of a gnat. Lots of people only watch highlights and even then on fast forward, so perhaps shorter matches are preferable? LOL!
Take the men out of Wimbledon and the ticket sales would plummet. Who would pay a fortune for centre court to see a Williams sister beat the opposition in 2 sets and under 45 minutes? And football is already under the same challenge: it’s laughable that the yea I women want more money when they actually, pro rata, get paid more than men as they get guarantees men don’t. 16 teams in in a whole competition? Hardly worthwhile is it?! But…. I’m all for it. I just wish people wouldn’t equate a top elite sportsman and women in the same way they do a male and female accountant
Disagree with you on the tennis - look up the viewing stats. BTW Serena & Venus stopped winning anything a year or so ago.
Personally I think watching football is best avoided, and that goes for the female matches too. Having said that, if others are glued to it and it makes them happy. thats great. Re the BBC -look at their typical content. No one should be surprised that they are showing huge amounts of women's football.
Have to disagree with you there jez. I think if you made Wimbledon an all female event, it wouldn’t have half the attendance. How they collate viewing figures I have no idea.
Well of course anything is possible. But consider if you made Wimbledon an all male event? It would only last a week, so half the current spectators!
I don’t mind the lasses having a go at pole vaulting. Especially that really fit bird from err, somewhere in Europe I think.
Alan sugar having a nervous breakdown about who’s hosting the matches has to be the most Alan sugar thing ever the prehistoric old ballbag. This is glorious , never liked him as a player or a person but recently he’s been excellent. https://twitter.com/ianwright0/status/1546799724178595841?s=21&t=vlY3uvMWyCleQJkuf-RidA
As a strong believer in equal rights I think it’s great women playing football. However I am a bit concerned about how women are going to fit in the cooking and cleaning around matches!
