Hi all, I’ve picked up my 1198 and after a few rides I’m wondering if the front forks have been lowered on the triple clamp? Is this even possible? It looks low, is insanely ‘wristy’ and the petrol cap keeps falling shut so makes me wonder if the whole bikes geometry is off towards the front end? Or is this just the bike from factory? Any help is muchly appreciated!
I'd say yes. That bit with the red cap on at the top looks very high. Mine (1098) look nothing like that so maybe some after market kit? Mine are Ohlins too so hard to make a like for like comparison. Can you also measure eye to eye on the rear pivot linkage? This pic looks standard, nowt like your forks: https://www.flickr.com/photos/35707376@N00/26416746694
thanks man, I did think same as you. I know the ohlins does ride lower on the triple clamp then my base showa forks but the ride just felt totally wrong. I’d take it to my dealer but they are absolutely rammed at the moment
Forks look fine. 3 rings showing as per manual. My preload was 4 rings showing, yours is 5. I can't remember my rebound or compression. I have it on a note somewhere, i'll never find it until I'm not looking for it. 1198 is very sensitive to tyre pressures. Get them bang on and check them. When you clean your bike, always squirt those roses on rear ride height with wd40 after. Why they couldn't be stainless ones is anyones guess. Get someone who knows what they're doing to check your sag and all that.
The workshop manual provides a baseline measurement for the distance from the top of the bottom yoke to the top of the fork leg.
I’ve got 10mm ish of thread at either end between the link bar and the end rings if that helps. Maybe the bike belonged to someone a lot smaller before you? Get the suspension and tyre pressures dialled in for you and it will be night and day as far as the ride goes.
