748 748 Sp On Ebay

  1. Could be the fact it’s a Jap import. There’s a decent 998s on there and it isnt moving, maybe for the same reason…..

  2. It may be that… I’m not too concerned as I had a good experience of buying a BM imported from Japan and it had been cherished. Thanks for the reply

  3. Looks like a nice bike, but do your research and take notes to take with you to look and ask questions mate.

    Service history is everything.

  4. Yeah… I have called a few up for sale with dodgy service history… one was fully serviced, ‘belts changed in 2012 and fine’ … I’m not an expert so would need to research.

  5. As I’m sure you are aware, there are a few non standard, aftermarket parts fitted and should you buy it, the speedometer will need to have 20mph, 30mph, 40mph, 50mph, 60 mph and 70 mph marked on the glass unless you can find a UK unit. SP’s started to climb up the money tree but £7k for an import that will require a full inspection service by someone who knows their stuff for peace of mind, is IMO, too strong. You are getting into early 748R money. Andy

  6. Thanks Andy… low mileage isn’t always a guarantee… as you say it would need a service by someone who knew the breed. I didn’t know that it had non standard parts…

  7. The rear sets, the 1/4 turn fasteners and the steering damper at first sight. You have at least 1 lower fairing fixing missing and the carbon V piece, rear hugger and chain guard are not original although available from the DP catalogue. I’m also not sure about the rear sprocket either. Andy

  8. Thanks again… you have a keen eye!

it’s more money than I wanted to spend but was considering whether it was worth stretching to…I’m thinking not

  9. Plus the brake m/cyl appears to be radial, non standard.
None of these items are show stoppers in my opinion but they are not 100% standard so if that’s what you are looking for then you need to factor these issues into the pricing.

  10. Thanks Ricky…. I am not after 100% original and appreciate sensible upgrades… I don’t have the knowledge to spot them always.
I plan to use the bike so would probably replace things in time.

  11. wrong front discs

  12. Mirrors, dzus fastners, fairing and screen bolts (I think, difficult to see), clutch cover and clutch (looks upgraded).

  13. Lots of bits changed/replaced and strong money… I’m feeling less keen …
The prices at dealers are inconsistent. Some very high asking prices for fairly standard bikes …

  14. Play a long game. Bikes are going to become much cheaper quite quickly

  17. As much as it pains me, I'm inclined to agree. I tracked a 748SP back in the day and more recently a 748R and whilst I'm a dyed in the wool Ducati V (L) twin devotee, there are more reliable, better handling and cheaper supersport class bikes for the track out there. Andy

  18. I don’t doubt you are right… I could buy a number of more capable machines for less money… but I have always wanted to try a 748 and it will be eligible for some classic bike events I’d like to attend.

  19. youve gotta connect with it in a more abstract way so do the right thing and focus on the 748. you can always buy a jap bike if you want afterwards (but you wont)
