ok so about a month ago i bought an 899 from piddock triumph in Nottingham, didn't muck about bought it on the spot, didnt even test drive it (big mistake) the bike was delivered down to the south coast and when i went out on it something wasn't right with the clutch, felt notchy and going down gears with clutch in theres a horrible snapping sensation, they said out was normal blah blah blah ,thats what ducatis do!! to be fair they picked it up after a 400 mile round trip, took a look and said yes it was something catching and now its all good so they dropped it off yesterday after another 400 mile round trip and it is exactly the same i need to get it to ducati ashford and let someone test drive it, iff they say the notchiness is normal then ok, i'll live with it surely they wouldn't go to the expense of a guy driving 800 miles without doing FA?
Strange that Pidcock Triumph would sell a Ducati when they have a Ducati ( Nottingham ) dealership just down the road, would they not give it to the franchise with a Ducati Approved warranty ! Or at least discuss with them if there’s a problem ?
they had a v4 and a h2 as well, i assume from part ex, they did ask if i wanted to take too a ducati dealer myself, but i was tied up, so its not like they are avoiding the issue
Only a thought here, is it a slipper clutch? My wet slipper doesn't do it, but dry ramp and ballbearing type do - in that there is quite a pronounced sensation through the clutch lever coinciding with full release that you can't miss while riding. as said, just a thought and hope you get it to your liking.
ill get there, good thong about mechanicals is that normally its just something that has to be replaced, it has warranty, jus one of those things love it otherwise, the noise over 6k is hilarious
Would be good if you let us know if/what was wrong with bike, just for other owners plus users of Pidcock Triumph.
I’d agree with what Chris has said. I’ve got a slipper on my 899 and it was a very odd sensation when I first encountered it with a pulsing through the gear lever. From what others have said the feeling can be specific to the make of clutch too. I’ve had a Blip box pro on for some time now so on a ‘spirited’ ride I’m not using the clutch lever so don’t feel the slipper action.
thanks chaps, if some one said it was slipper and it was normal i'd be ok with it, it will get resolved and ill post the outcome if this was common there would lots of threads over the internet and ive found nothing, nothing on the 899 forum, which seems full of tumbleweed sometimes you can actually hear a snap even over the engine it has been modded a bit, lots of carbon, throttle spacer etc, so its possible he changed the clutch turns out the guy whose bike it was before works there as a mechanic , ive asked to speak to him/ can he call me but so far FA
Dealers name is Pidcock, just so it doesn't conflict with any other. They have Triumph, Ducati, BMW, Energica and Zero dealerships. I've found them very fair.
Pidcock have always been dead straight with me. They service my Panzer (GSA) and my Triumphs before that
used all of Pidcocks dealerships over the years, I bought the current Panzer from them and use them for service. they have always been pretty straight with me.
Good job I read the thread, otherwise I’d have got the impression from the title that Pidcock’s were a bit shite.
got a quickshifter and it works fine so i took the bike into ducati Ashford yesterday and their guy took the bike for a spin came back and said yes its not right he'd never seen it before the clutch and gear box are fine, suspects a spring or something in the clutch basket, its booked in for repair and Pidcock said no problem its covered by warranty just a bit crap that they sold the bike like that, and then after picking it up for repair sent it back in the same condition the bikes done 1200 miles in the back of a van in the last month they hadn't sent logbook off either
Yeah that is a bit rubbish. You would have thought they'd have the clutch apart for an inspection at least. I've had it myself. Bought a Daytona from a Ducati dealer then got it home and it ran shite. My mechanic got into it and he stopped when he saw the state of the air filter. They Ducati dealer selling the bike had done nothing. It would appear that the dealer who serviced it did off-all either - mechanic said it likely has never been changed. 12 year old bike! On top of that, the poor running was also down to a clearly very out of shape coil pack. Just a little bit of pre-sales checking would be nice..... Glad yours is being sorted and you'll hopefully have some summer left to enjoy it.
