Sim, a bit delayed but I'm in the middle of reading your Psb article as I'm sat here at north terminal. Nice write up what did you replace the cdi boxes with in the end, the article doesn't say.
Hi Sev Thanks I replaced the original cdi boxes with an ignitech box and made a custom loom for it to sit right at the back of the seat unit where the tools usually hide. If you need any pics just let me know. The coils and Ignitech are powered by a relay so get full direct battery voltage.
Nice tidy work there Where did you get your ignitech from Si?, and how much of a hassle was it getting to work? So did you do a custom loom at the front of the bike for the relay or just splice it into the existing loom/relays?
Thanks Sev I made a custom loom , which wasnt too much hassle and is so much neater. The ignitech when plugged and loaded with the std map supplied worked straight out of the box, will no doubt need a dyno run to have a propper fiddle but at the mo just running it as it came. I bought the unit direct from Ignitech and it arrived about 5 days or so after payment which was excellent. Total including leads was 173 euro which is about £150.
cool! have you noticed any changes with the ignitech installed? What made you change from the current CDI units, did they need replacing or did you just futureproof yourself due to cost of the genuine spare and all that?
Just wanted to future proof and also allow fdor a bit of tuning later on , the original units were working fine, at the sametime I changed the flywheel to a lighter 600ss one that was machined down by Steve Bailey , the two together made a difference , but I think the bike needs a bit of dyno time to be properly sorted.
Thought it might be something like that. Ducati did do performance CDI's but they were stupid cash and offered three different maps. Thanks for the input Si.
Hi Sim, I'd be over for the 14th at Greet as it's nearest to Stow. Let me know if you are going and I'll pop over. Duke
I was down your way the other day. Broadway to be precise. Looked out for a nice Mk1 zooming around but never saw one hehe
