Hi there, I hope you are safe and well. My 748 with a 916 engine needs a new kickstand; I have a couple of questions before I place the order as I've been advised the parts are non-refundable. (i) If I purchase the 1098 kick stand: how well does this fit the 916 bracket/mount? Does it fit flush when the kickstand is up? I'm just concerned there might be a "flare" or misalignment. (ii) Has anyone purchase a 1098 side stand? I found one online HERE (part no 55610462A) but they don't specify whether it's alloy or black. Any help would really be appreciated! Unfortunately the kickstand mount snapped last week
Thank you for the prompt response. I was advised by the Manager of the store that it won't fit so I thought it prudent to double check before I moved ahead wit the order!
I have a 1098 stand on my 916 748. It's a perfect straight swap. I think they are all black but you could sand off the paint or put silver on it. Try and find a second hand one. I paid $10 for mine.
@Martin Le Tessier Thank you for your help. Did you use the 1098 mount or the one that came with your 748?
I can't remember. It was about 4 years ago. I'm almost certain that they are the same, as in revertible back and forth. If you have a paddock stand and are going to pick up the stand then maybe take the stand in with you to compare. Those brand new prices for parts are nasty! I have also seen some owners afix a shaped aluminium block to the bottom of the stand for more footprint and a longer stand
ive got the 1198 stand on my 996, i had to change the bolt as well as the shoulder was slightly different, but very easy to change.
Also depending on what ride height yours is set at, even the 1098 side stand can leave the bike leaning too much. I had this problem and sorted it using a Cagiva Mito side stand. These are a bit longer then the 1098 ones. Just in case… I think @Chris put me on to this.
