Hi all, I’m possibly going to buy this 996, can anyone see anything that would indicate it’s a bitsa, it’s a 1999 biposto. Cheers
I agree with RickyX, broadly the bike looks to be fairly original. Not totally sure the end cans are Termignoni, something about the weave just doesn’t look right. It’s had a few cheap, yellow anodised, aluminium bolts thrown at it, after market front discs and the rear sprocket looks knackered. Oh, and the wheels aren’t supposed to be gloss black but that’s personal taste. Andy
Non-standard bits; Grips Exhaust cans Wheels Front discs Clutch and Brake reservoir caps Carbon bits (heal plate, heat shield) Clutch Cover Frame bungs Clutch pressure plate spring assemblies Swingarm Hugger and cover Polished foot pegs Polished exhaust pipes Brake and clutch hoses What does the yoke plaque say?
They don't look like my termis, and termis usually have the termi decal on them to show they are, well, termis. To me it looks like an honest, modified example. It shouldn't take much to return it to original but there are more original examples out there.
As I said, I think it is an honest example that has had money spent 'blinging' it up. If you intend to return it gradually to original, which is what I would do, the money will be on new brake discs (the rear also looks scored in the pics), maybe replace the potentially faux-termi cans, do something with the wheels (probably repaint or sell and replace), replace all the carbon bits with the metal originals or remove completely (the swing arm cover and hugger). This will cost money but you can probably recover some of that by selling the stuff. It is going to cost some money and original parts may prove to be hard to find. It's just weighing up whether it would be better to pay slightly more for a more original example. This is for you to decide, do you mind the non-original parts? do you want a project or just a bike to ride? Good luck in what you decide.
I’m going to do the belts, valves at the interval then enjoy it up to 15k. im happy with the mods(bar the red caps) looking to enjoy it for what it is and keep it as long as possible.
It's 7.5 There is an original red one on Ebay after a quick search which is 8.5 and looks REALLY nice with lower mileage. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185281520751?
