BMW fitting halogen head lights (not LED) units to GS’s due to shortages. A voucher for a few hundred quid as well to spend when/if LED units are in Whole world has gone parts loopy!
Please don’t turn this into yet another insurance debate. There are companies that will insure with full systems, you just need to do your homework and find them. As to the noise, we rode through France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany, no baffles on my bike, riding hard, and no issues whatsoever.
If the insurance company needs to claim off a third party and the bike is insured, that’s what they are there for. There’s more important things to lay in bed worrying about tbh.
A third party’s insurance company could argue they don’t see why they should pay out on a bike that is not road legal.
Who’s turning this into an insurance thread? ? Forget the insurance, that’s the risk we take. And I believe quite minimal. It’s the Welsh plod and / or the bored magistrate that follow the guidance. A fine.. pay it and crack on…… 6 points might be different. https://www.hagerty.co.uk/articles/...ameras-tackle-frances-loudest-bikes-and-cars/
I got rid of my full system due to the risk of a serious claim that could have affected my family , scenario.. big crash , multi injury, your at fault , goodbye happy home . You may be out of the equation but someone pays the price , you cannot win against an insurance firm and a legal precedent. Simple Not Road legal means one thing only , sorry but it is plain fact
The stock Akra on the PP looks to have little twin baffles in the end of it, just like the full system. Has anyone tried removing them? I'm keeping away from the full system this time for reasons stated above, but the stock can is so incredibly quiet I feel like I need to do something!
They are not baffles, just part of the can. There is a video somewhere on youtube where someone took one apart to find out.
They are removable baffles on the Akra Race exhaust. I dont believe they are on the standard AKRA though.
Looks to me like the exact same arrangement as the full system when I look down the back: https://imgur.com/a/eJjpXHW
Can you see a small dome head bolt just inside each outlet? If so maybe you are right. I cant check my standard exhaust as am at work now
There are 2 small baffles in the full system that are held in with a small screw that is tack welded so you can’t remove them. I removed the weld and removed the baffles, but can’t say it made much difference to the sound, maybe very slightly..? Not like the difference when I removed the baffles on my 1260 full system, that sounded like thunder!
The little tack weld broke fairly easy with an allen Key. Boy the little baffles were tough to get out though lol
I am not a fan of noisy exhausts and I have a V4S with 8,500m on it - OK its not a PP but I have a question. Who is the noise for? I like to hear the twin sound on the V4 at stops when it switches the rear cylinders off after that it is quiet (ish) but once above 5/6k all I hear is the very loud airbox roar as the revs (quickly ) climb towards 10k! Cant hear the exhaust at all! Does the PP have the same loud Airbox roar that drowns out any exhaust noise?
The noise is definitely for me. I find the V4 almost silent compared to other bikes I've owned and a nice noise is part of the experience for me. I don't want deafening, just a nice characterful noise, but I don't seem to get airbox or any other noise from the V4, it may as well be electric.
