996 Help Identify Parts

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Nostromo, Jul 30, 2022.

  1. I don't disapprove (where did I say I disapprove?), I'm confused by the TOTALLY ORIGINAL and then going on to say how much it has been modified. That's it. Are you ok with this Chris?

  2. If you knew my bike you wouldn't call me a 'authentico Originalio'. If you remember, I know that is sometimes not very easy to some, the original post asked what mods had been done to a bike for sale. I was just focusing on originality, as it seemed to be important to the OP. Personally I couldn't give a monkeys about originality, but then you wouldn't know that as you haven't bothered to enquire. Now, do we have that clear?

  3. Again you jump to your own opinions and World view. Most was not from HT, in fact the stuff purchased from them has been replaced over many years. Some was purchased direct from FBF, some from Ducati dealers, some from Pro Twins, some from Ebay. Many Ducati enthusiasts and owners would not refer to my bike as original. The parts are mainly 'original' (aka not faked) FBF, Ducati and DP but that's about it. My bike is like no other 916 and that's how I like it. Many won't but that's just fine.
Seems to me that there is another 'Brett' to be avoided in the Surrey area. ;)

  4. Sounds like a cool bike, modified with age/era appropriate add ons. Do you have any pics?

  5. Just got in so just to go through each point:-

Firstly, you disagreed with my post which has confused me as there is nothing to disagree with in my reply, it's two separate questions - or are you saying that you have seen the bike?

Secondly the word I used was disprove not disapprove.
Please correct me if was wrong, because I really didn't know, still don't know but the post of yours I was replying to (for me) had a disparaging tone to it. Ok, it does seem unlikely that the bike has had every part fettled, and it would be/is a rare bike if it is totally original, but, despite some good quality pictures, it's very hard to say that neither of the above is untrue, you or I can't be sure without investigating further/seeing the bike in the flesh maybe - so until this has been achieved then, why even bother even commenting?

    it really is that simple.

  6. Wow, guy asks for an opinion on a potential bike he wishes to purchase and an eruption of contributors' handbags ensues.

  8. No doubt signed by Tamburini's hand, which'll double the value again.

  9. If someone wants to pay over the odds for something, then that is their own lookout. But people will pay stupid money for stupid shit. Look at the Lambo diavel. A fool and their money are soon parted goes the saying. But if you've the money, and its your thing, then why not I guess. We're all fools here anyway. We've all been gladly getting ripped off by Ducati and thanking them for it.

  16. I’m going to give the yellow one a miss, It’s an ok price, but factoring in belts(last logged in 2014) and valves in a 1000 miles, it will cost me closer to 8.5.
I will hold off abit, I’m happy getting a 748/916 etc so I will wait for the right one.
