yip, turns out shit dont burn. . picked him and the bike up from the top of Glencoe last night. kicking it over it feels like it may have holed a piston or something. he went a lil further afield after a whole week of everything working and up until it went pop it had never ran so well apparently. a wee phone call to lexmoto today i think. lets see if we can get his new one delivered early.
Not today but tomorrow. Been helping a mate over in Wales with his z1000. Its been off the road all summer. Its turned into a bit of a teaching/learning experience for him. Hes got the same one as mine (gen4) and bar having the motor out of mine its been apart a fair few times (servicing, maintenance, repairs etc etc) so at the start of the summer he came off of it (a small off) but enough to snap the footpeg so he got some gilles on order which, after i think 4 months have just turned up. Weve fitted the modified airbox, HM QS, (the footpegs but he did that), a hel rear master cylinder (brembo rear to come) and the crowning finish tomorrow some top end OZ titanium coloured wheels and new tyres tomorrow so taking all my tyre changing stuff over to teach him how to do it (hes never had the wheels of either) so tomorrow should be fun...even more fun going into wales on a sunny day on a z1000 with a small plate and a full race system....(cue smokey and the bandit music...)
Bought a new helmet. Went to P&H with full intention of buying a Shoei NXR2 however, there are no dark visors available in the UK with no known delivery date. Salesman advised me to get an NXR off the internet as they are on offer and one can get dark visors for them. Sorted. Helmet from J&S, visor from M&P.
So..... I'm living the highlife today MD's for breakfast in bed Have an annoying puzzle on the go (my daughter started it) it's not going to get the better of me in bed listening to Muse The other option was to clean my windows
Another bike, another mot completed..........with weather like this laid on by the bloke upstairs, so a rideout to the coast with NO fish and chips swimming around in my belly.
My first chain cleaning ever... (35 years on shaft driven BMW's) a bit of diesel, a brush and some 90W gearbox oil afterwards... ASMR... sort of. Sprayed the rear with yellow kitchen degreaser and rinsed with soapy water before applying gearbox oil.... Test ride to make sure my rear tire isn't sprayed with oil. Guess what? Rear brake gone! A couple of controlled emergency stops with the rear brake sorted things out. All back to normal.
Tim messaged at lunchtime on Friday to let me know my Multi was ready for collection. Great comprehensive Desmo service; Valves checked (all in spec), new belts, change oil and oil filter, air filter, new spark plugs, brake and clutch fluid changed and replaced coolant. Not cheap but wasn't expecting it to be, though far better price than a franchised dealer I'll wager. So pleased to have such an experienced Ducati specialist in the same town as me, consider that a real blessing.
Sc Scored barrel and piston rings welded to the piston. New bigbore kit ordered. Wtf is this? It just pops out. How the ferk can it top 66mph and power wheelie with that in there?. I wonder what will happen if I......
yip, it's the law. init. in fact, fugit. i'm gonna get a bigger Malossi carb from PM tuning. along with a bigger better faster stronger exhaust. i'v started doing that thing i do when working on my own stuff. (which is why i dont do it very often and just leave it to the lads) there is a real inner battle going on a the mo about doing/not doing a full strip down and rebuild. there is no rush now that his new bike is coming this week.
Guys, you gotta see this… I got the Panigale MOTd today and had a nice few hours hoon afterwards.. But while I was there, the guys were showing me their latest entrant into their “ Black Museum “…. A little old dear had her Car fail the MOT on the brakes, she said afterwards that she thought it might fail as the brakes hadn’t been too good for a while , upon taking it apart, this is what they discovered… The pads had worn down to the metal backing plate and had ground through the disc where it meets the hub, the lad who was working on it said it literally fell apart in his hands ! Scary to think someone was driving a motor with brakes in this state!
Wrestled the R6 out of the hallway and in to the garage, rear paddock stand engaged and fired the beast into life for the first time in a month or two. On the button ….. well, maybe on the button a second or third time but warmed through sweet as a nut, pick up is crisp and all 6 gears are still there. A real shame it’s unlikely to be used again in anger until May next year Still, it’s back in the hallway now, until I’m enthused enough to get it back out and fired up again. Andy
