1299 Panigale 1299 Map Sensor

  1. Hiya a dealer has told me a Map Sensor is the fault on my 1299 pani. Does anyone know if a engine fault or code appears on the dash as it doesnt on my bike.
The engine fault is it's running poorly in low revs , the rpm fluctuates a little and it easily stalls inconsistently on idle and pulling off the rpm has a slight surge again inconsistently.
Its bloody annoying as i have to switch the ignition off and on again to get it started on stall.
Normal riding in mid range revs etc there are no signs of any issue.

  2. Sounds like that all adds up to me, the ecu basically has no idea what its doing as it doesn't accurately know air levels. I took mine off and cleaned with contact cleaner a while back as was getting poor starting issues and it helped. But if one's failed, its failed

  3. No, 1299's don't show engine codes like the older bikes, you just get an EML and they then need to plug in the code reader.

Most people replace both and ask the dealer to retain the good one as a spare, they take about 15 minutes to swop over, or 20 minutes to do both, I take one on all my trackdays as a spare as they are a common fault.

  5. Umm it isn't the map sensors was told after being fitted. Throttle surging on the dealers test ride was told You would have thought there diagnostics would find the issue. It's at Ducati Blade abingdon as onyerbike where I normally would take it are booked up until September.
Anyone else got an idea. Would have thought they would have synced the Throttle after noticing the surging.
Ps Bikes a 16 reg with only 9k miles on it.

  6. They are lumpy as fook low down with them monster pistons and hi rev design parameters. You could come to the conclusion there is nothing actually 'wrong' with the bike. My 1299 was a lot smoother low down after a remap at DWR in Buckingham, and really sings when she's opened up. Best of all, at a steady throttle opening, say in a 40 or 50mph zone it doesn't surge like before. Never had the stalling issue, but used to be shite just off a standstill pulling away. Dave

  7. Thought about a remap but went down the route of a bigger rear sprocket which meant I could go in second around town without as much chugging.
The dealer service rider has now reported a surging issue and are trying to talk with Ducati about the issue.
Had a 1299 with akra cans when the bike first came out and yes it was crap around town but I got used to it after a few hundred miles etc. This standard 1299 is much worse and the joy of riding it is really over shadowed with the inconsistent rpm and now throttle surging which is worse than before according to the Dealer. Want I dont want is a hideous bill and due to a few things I've missed 1/2 the bike season already and now it's still in there workshop.i can say for sure it's not right but who knows what it could be hopefully something stupid .

  8. I have a write up on here for map sensors, but there is no difference in engine running with a faulty one as it switches to the second sensor, above 4000 rpm it does not use them, test with a volt meter, I will look for my write up here so not to do it again

  9. Good luck with this. Never good through the summer riding season.

  10. My 1299 has benefited low down from the throttle mod and a RapidBike Evo. The stalling never happens much anymore. The throttle mod just helps finesse the throttle really. Imo.

  11. Hi yes I get a new map may solve a fuel issue but I'm not asking for the Earth just want it back to a stock bike with yes lumpy low down revs ( I know this).
Got it back from Blade Abingdon new sensors etc and service went to fill up and took 5 restarts to get it running again ( issue is not a custom mapping it's got a fault somewhere for sure).
It doesn't stall as easy I will give them that but low down revs are much more lumpy that it should be ref previous 1299 I had .
Dont take it to Blade Abingdon as they can do basic serving but not tricky v twin faults. It's now booked in to onyerbike aylesbury for a assessment / repair ref starting issue / low rpm fluctuation issues.would have taken it first to onyerbike but they were booked up for 2 months . Life is a bitch sometimes.
