I'm getting a bit of boot-generated scuffing on the cast section of the frame above the LH footpeg. I guess 3m 8671 helicopter tape would stop this but think it might struggle to stay stuck to the slightly not-polished surface. Anyone tried this, or have a better solution, please? Cheers Mark
I've used helicopter tape on other bits - top of the fork legs for example - and it sticks well. I don't see why the frame would be any different. Worth a go at least.
FWIW 3M makes an adhesion promoter (86A) for 8671 tape, available in single use wipes, not sure of the cost.
Have helicopter tape on both my frame castings and also on the rear of the clutch cover on my 1260 Multistrada. Been there for three years and hasn't come off yet.
R&G make a stick on kit, cut to shape. https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/r-g-racing-motorcycle-boot-guard-kit-rgpezbg206bl/
Hate the way that R&G plaster their name across their products without any subtlety. Frankly puts me off buying them. But that's me...
According to their website the logo is a stick-on for this kit, so presumably can be left in the bag...
I`ve got the R&G ones on mine, they look good. The left hand one, (which gets the abuse) both parts came away in less than a year. Emailed them as to the best way to re stick or if they had anything for that and just got ignored. Tried all sorts of double sided tape, glue etc but it goosed now & will have to buy another unfortunately
I've had the R&G stuff fitted since I got the bike - so not sure if it's been on since new, but it's now coming off all over the place. I liked the look (matt black), but the price seems high for something that last a maximum of 3 years? Likewise considering re applying but given @RedDucDuc's experience I don't think I want more from R&G. Has anyone come across a good alternative (not transparent helicopter tape)? Thanks
