Oooo... that is a bummer but as others have said we have all done it and it's the dented pride & confidence which is worse than the scratched fairing. Many years ago I pulled into a gas station looking pretty cool on the Darmah if I say so myself, and forgot there was a big luggage bag on the pillion seat when I got off and swung my leg over the saddle....not so cool trapped underneath the bike. I wince & my toes curl even now when I think about it.
Petrol station embarrassment or what! The first time I rode my AP50, it was just a 2 min ride down hill to get some petrol in the village. I rode straight into the petrol pump. No damage to the pump, my bike or myself but here we are 40+ years later and I'm still cringing as I remember... LOL!
Even though it is most probably an urban myth, but the story about a guy pulling into a petrol station and forgetting about the sidecar doesn't make it any less funny.
Nearly dropped my SS in works petrol station the first time I fuelled up The camber dropped to my left as I got off Thankfully I saved it with my thigh but it was close i rode with someone that could hold my bike while I got off
Ooo... cambers & non level ground can always catch you out. Like when you bump up/down a kerb & stop with one wheel on the road & one on the pavement... where's the ground gone
Collected my brand-spanking new BMW R1100RS from the dealer in 1993, with high gloss black side cases, dismounted and swung my leg of the bike after just 7 miles, my boot made a BIG/FAT UGLY scratch on the right side case. We have all been there.
I had to lay my Multistrada down because I lost my footing on a greasy camber, it went past the point of no return. Minor damage.
Dont even mention to your insurance that you've had an off, they will still apply a loading on your next renewal and for several more years as well, you will also get loaded on any other policies - car etc. While it wont be as much as if you claimed you will still get hit for it. £1150 excess is outrageous.
