I've just had new tyres fitted to the 1260 and now the rim tape on front and rear needs replacing. It's been a while since I last fitted this stuff, pretty much from when I first bought the bike from new, so it isn't anything the tyre fitters have done. I can't seem to find where I bought the original rim tape from, so as to be able to replicate the quality, etc. Yes, before any of you bright sparks on here say so, it is of course 'an age thing'......... Any suggestions from any reliable, good quality UK suppliers, that people might recommend? I want to get it soonish, as I want to attach it to the wheels before I refit them to the bike.
The last time I tried fitting rim tape was about 10 years ago, I made such a mess of it I vowed to never attempt it again!
Nothing wrong with rim tape.! Depending on what rim we’re talking about.. I have it on mine and I think it helps add a little touch of colour to an otherwise bland part of the bike. I’ll trawl through my receipts and tell you where I got mine. It’s been on the bike for 3/4 years now and still looks new, with no peeling edges. Gratuitous pic follows…
Here you are Tony… Throw caution to the wind and mud in their eyes.! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32349264...qrMZcxyT4S&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=MORE
As this is turning in to a poll on Rim Tape. It's a definite No from me. I think it only belongs on bikes like tarted up XJRs, Bandits etc. You know the ones where the owner gets paid each month and thinks "What crap can I buy to stick on my bike this month".
Crap eh.? Let’s see some of your “tasteful” additions or is your bike just another untouched-off-the-production-line-follow-the-herd-etc,etc
If it’s good enough for Ducati to put on their totr V4 Mut (albeit paint) then I’m sure some of the proletariat can copy the bourgeoise..
Yep I'm more likely to remove stuff from my bikes. I don't do standard ones in any shape or form. Can you tell me what purpose Rim Tape performs?
Simples, it adds a little 'visual relief' to such a boring set of wheels, which in the case of my 1260, are 'just' black...... All individual choice admittedly, but I suggest you check in on the newer models and guess what, they have wheel tape added.
Cheers Shoboshi, I'll have a look here and can categorically confirm, I will take very little, if any of my valuable time, listening to the 'contras'!
I am only teasing I'm not a fan of rim tape but if you guys like it get in on those wheels Individuality I say
I didn’t realise rim tape was so controversial! Lots of bikes come with it from factory now and it boils down to personal taste, I see lots of mods on bikes that I think look awful but each to their own. Tony if you go for just a plain tape make sure it comes with the little applicator tool it make it so much easier.
