From the photos on here https://www.vagn-jensen.dk/road-racing/?surl=ducati-851-sp3-id-239517 it seems to have some nice extras like rear subframe, maybe race radiator and engine mods. I had a new 888 back in the 1990s and now mostly ride on track on later Ducati models. Any thoughts from the 851/888 cognoscenti would be appreciated thank you.
As already said, this is highly modified, but for the price of £12,500 before import duties, it feels comfortable. If it has some race success history that would help, but the way it sits, it really is a track bike and would be a pretty large undertaking to get it to original SP3 spec for anyone interested in that route. On the understanding that the frame and engine numbers match the Ducati Factory records as an original SP3 (the frame has been painted from the original white), certainly worthy of consideration. Biggelaar Performance are a well known performance shop and I would feel comfortable they got their hands on it's heart. I could list out the things I see that would need changing if someone wanted an original SP3, but as you said you are looking for a track bile, it seems very worthy of consideration at that price. I did a translation of the description. "Roadracing, 926 ccm, Color: Red, No tax, 999 HP, Top speed: 250 km/h, Vagn's own racer Ducati 851 SP3. Stands very nice and is ready to get a new driver. The engine has been rebuilt and optimized at Biggelaar Performance in the Netherlands. Nothing has been spared, ported SP5 headers, G knobs, RS crank etc. Marvic magnesium wheels, Termigioni exhaust, slipper clutch, Öhlins suspension. Fork FG9051. Carbon front fender, fuel tank and cap. Only done one trackday at Jyllandsringen since. Danish machine card for class 7D Superbike.."
Yes the sole purpose is keep it as a track bike. I could not afford an original SP. I do not know Vagn, but looked at his business and had a few emails that inspire confidence. Import duty & VAT are only 5% if the bike is >250cc and more than thirty years old. I have emailed frame & engine numbers to Ducati to see what they have on record. I have asked for some "fairing off" shots to see what's underneath. Thanks for sharing the "knowledge" with me on here. I will press on and see if can bring this one to the UK....
