The problem with public transport is, it almost never starts from where you want to depart and almost never arrives where you want. Many people have to use personal transport to get to the public transport. Also if you need to transport any kind of baggage/shopping/large item of any kind it’s not convenient. Clearly public transport has its uses but the fact is we need both. In my opinion the Multistrada could well morph into a human carrying drone. That would be interesting and probably not that far away but the name Multistrada would have to morph as well , as it wouldn’t be using roads of any kind.
News yesterday that Audi will be supplier of the F1 engines from 2026 to meet the new fuel requirements….ie synthetic fuels!
Interestingly, prior to 1968 when North Sea gas came on stream we made our own gas from coal….mixed with 60% hydrogen!
Still misses the point. To make synthetic fuels you need energy in the first place. They will have a place but it won't be to replace petrol in everyday vehicles.
Yes, you will need energy. Not denying that, electricity is not going to disappear is it. In fact electricity production is going to increase is it not.
No City is going to allow vehicles in its centre that produce emissions when electric vehicles are freely available and affordable.
Affordable? Really? not for the many fella. Nor are they carbon neutral. The objective & technology with synthetic fuels for ICE is that they are carbon neutral. Audi, Porsche, Toyota, Hyundai, Mercedes & and a few others are way down the line with synthetic fuels. The ev Nerva is many many years away… could even be a Beta Max scenario. My prediction is the 2030 goal will be extended, hydrogen and synthetic fuel will leap frog ev’s…ICE exist in huge numbers as does the fuelling infrastructure. As for cities, they need to keep the wheels of commerce turning and if alternative carbon neutral alternatives are available watch this space.
Carbon neutral synthetic fuels means they are still polluting city centres when driving. Once self driving vehicles are here then car ownership will become a thing of the past..the World is always changing.
http://https//www.transportenvironm...y-e-petrol-pollute-the-air-as-much-as-petrol/ They are not the answer to pollution problems.
This is admittedly the big downside to synthetic fuels. Pollution at the point of usage rather than at the point of production. The graph above is interesting, however the 2 biggest producers of synthetic fuel generate their electricity purely by renewables (that's why one of them is in Chile, to use those Patagonian winds to good effect). The graph would look quite different if that was taken into account.
That could go either way I think. If EVs are the norm, local pollution will drop so low that pollution from ICE vehicles will be at historically low levels anyway and be considered inconsequential and way below a level considered hazardous to health. Equally, you could be right and they use it as a way to ban ICE from the cities. I think only time will tell on that one.
That’s partially correct, HENG often ran to 50% and rarely above …… but pure hydrogen cannot be run in normal gas mains.
Anyway. This is supposed to be what next for multistrada , not the world of motorcycles id like to see a topbox that doesn’t limit top speed. Even if it’s only 30 liters .
