Close run thing but he's probably been the most consistent of the two contenders this year thus far, to earn his place and ultimately an all Italian team is a dream made in heaven for the marketing team in Bologna.
Bagnaia has just won 3 in a row though. Ducati have clearly developed the machine and the Yamaha can only compete on the twistiest tracks. It’s a shame the Ducati wasn’t up to it at the beginning of the season. Ducati have a lot of ground to make up and Quatararo is doing a good job of defending that lead but presently who’s bike would you rather be riding? Bastianini must be a very happy guy at the moment.
Totally agree with your analysis Sami, the early season bike just wasn't good enough. For Bagnaia to catch and beat Fabio for the 2022 riders title he has to win the final seven races with Fabio no better than third. Don't count out Aleix either, once that heel heals he'll be in the mix.
I can’t see it happening though can you? All Quatararo has to do is bring the bike home safely in reasonable positions and he’ll win it again. Then again racers right hands are often not quite connected to the logic in their brains That’s what makes them so good and me a chicken!
I wouldn't discount anything this year, but with MM out and Suzuki retiring, 2022 has to offer the best chance yet for Ducati glory.
Don't forget though, Bastianini won his 3 races in the early part of the season so the bike can't have been that bad from the off!! Hes going through a bit of a rough patch now though like Bagnaia did at the start of the season, I dont think any of them are truly consistent anymore, not in the way that Marquez was, even Mir is having a nightmare and he was known for his consistency!!
