1200 Enduro Mileage - Faults 1200/1260 Enduro

  1. Hard to say exactly but the gear lever certainly looks like it is severely low when compared with the footpeg.
    The handlebars are harder to judge, but it looks possible.
    I had a 2013 S and didn't like the way the bars positioned my wrists. I fitted a replacement pair intended for a quad/ATV bike which moved things slightly forward and at a straighter angle, which were much more comfortable. They were Pro Taper Contour Raptor.

  3. That gear lever position is definitely very odd, adjusted way down.

    As for the standard seat on a DVT they’re terrible. You slide down them or roll your hips into the tank and crush your jewellery. The decision to modify the seat is not a difficult one.
     
  4. The 2013 model you rode and the 2015+ models are quite different. It’s a case of different strokes for different folks. I mention that as you’re considering a DVT Enduro.

    Moving on, I might get shot down for this but to me there’s not much difference between the 1200 and 1260. However my experience is not with the Enduro.

    The main differences of the road focused 1200 and 1260 are;
    1260 has longer wheel base=Feels steadier at very high speeds, (we’re probably talking illegal speeds though) = slightly slower to turn.
    It also has a not very good Quickshifter. Not sure but maybe only upshifts not downshifts.
    A few extra CC’s and a slight tendency for the longer chain to rub against the tyre if you fit Michelin 5’s or 6’s.
    It’s not massive.

    I have the 1200 DVT. ( non enduro).
    Top tips. Fit an Akrapovic full system. Totally transforms the bike. Change the seat. Adjust the suspension for your weight not the shite factory settings. Easily done by a man of your calibre.
    Also, you’ll be fine with doing the Desmo service yourself. Sounds like you’ve pretty much done it before.

    Out of curiosity, why the Enduro not the road version? I had one for a day when mine was serviced. I prefer to off road on a 250.

  5. Thanks for the info Sam1199, really good stuff, oh and apologies for the tardy response.

    The Enduro thing is a hangover from years ago when I was really into following the desert racing exploits of the nutters on bikes and mad Russians in trucks.
    I've wanted a Cagiva 900 Elephant for many years and my Multistrada itch has sort of evolved.

    My original plan was simply for another build project to keep me occupied in the garage, so I worked out how to fit 900 Elephant bodywork to a Multi 1000DS and also how to convert it to a conventional swingarm with wire wheels to complete the look, a project I will do one day.
    But then the chance to actually use a bike for a long trip and a bit of camping next year came up, and I wouldn't want to do it on a 20yr old modified bike.
    So a damaged or abused Enduro gives me a project, the style I like, and the chance to travel on a newish bike next year at a cost I can possibly stretch to.

    It's never as simple as just buying a new bike with me I'm afraid, the need to fiddle, other financial commitments, and semi-retirement see to that.
