I had my 997 turbo stage 2 tuned to ~620hp. It was batshit fast. Too much torque though. Those 305 rears would unstick themselves coming out of corners. And that was with PS4S’ as well. Laugh out loud fun though…. I’m determined to keep the power OE on this one. So far so good …. But you know what??
All this talk about Porka’s has piqued mine and I’m sure other readers interests. May we see pics of aforementioned cars?
An early 996 is the one to have, like an early T9: panned by ‘enthusiasts’ at the time but commanding premium now. Last of and first of the way to go did I mention mine is chassis under 1500 and 1997 manufactured….
I actually disagree. It's not got the frogeyes, and it's got the bad smell of the IMS bearing circling around it. The turbos are good. I wonder whether 996 cars and later mightn't begin to peak. They are fairly common now, and if you look at the Bobby Ewing Mercedes SL's, they have definitely fallen back in value for whatever reason. It's all conjecture. If you love it, buy it, but you can expect an average of 2kpa running costs on a 996/7, and often more. There's always summat wrong with them, or was with mine. If buying, I'd look at a 997 which has preferably had the IMS bearing done, and been boreoscoped. Alternatively budget 6k odd for a hartech.
Early 996 nd the double row, so IMS far les an issue. Over 250k cars produced, not many have ims failure: most have them replaced due to companies like hartech banging the rumour like a drum…along with their 12k redbiuld ‘just in case’ service early 997 more likely iirc, certainly 996.2
Went round Donington in my 997 turbo. Brakes were cooked after 3 laps. Fine for the road but trackwork will require significant upgrades
@Zhed46 @Fairy Cringe Wow. Thanks for the pics. Really liking the shade of blue. last couple of years I been thinking about a 997, I’ve always thought it would be a better option than a Ferrari 360
Thanks… yeah, the colour did draw me after black black black etc Mate had a 360 Modena. Nice car and sounded great. But it wasn’t very fast I didn’t think and Jesus, it was expensive to run! A 997.2 on the other hand… peach of a car
Your welcome. Great colour choice. It’s the old adage about Porsche being usable enough to pop down to the shops, whereas the 360 is a bit of a drama. Yes they sound and look great but they also receive unfair comments from other drivers.
It was definitely more of an occasion when driving it. There was 6mm of perspex between your head and the glorious engine directly behind said head But I do remember him doing a track day in it at Croft. It cost him £6k in consumables that day. Kinda put me right off Ferrari’s
I didn't have any issues with the spacers. Unfortunately, I don't know what size they were - I did have it written down but the document was in the folder that went along with the car. The bottom pic was at the Nurburgring. We drove there 3-up, with my teenage sons taking turns to be folded nearly double in the rear seat just to only do only one lap in the end. There was smoke pouring off the brakes when we came back in after the first run, so I thought I had better let them cool down before going back out again but while we were waiting a biker crashed and had to be airlifted to hospital and they closed the track.
You’d be surprised. 10mm is enough to noticeably fill out the arch. Don’t go too radical with spacer width, you’ll look like ‘king of the road’ in the Hamlet adverts… Spacers give your car a nice stance but a Porsche technician told me that Porsche geo engineering work out optimal settings and that’s how they leave the factory. In other words, don’t fuck with it. So I haven’t.
The spacers on mine weren’t cosmetic but were necessary because it was a C2 fitted with genuine GT3 wheels. I think Bradders has the same set up.
