Day 4- Udine Italy, to Admont Austria via Slovenia - 180 miles Considering the mileage wasn’t massive today it was still a full on day because of the nadgery nature of the mountain passes, first gear hairpin bends! We left a very warm Udine at 09:00 , one thing that was very noticeable was the roads in Austria were brilliant, billiard table smooth and grippy as f…, once into Italy the deterioration was noticeable, ..once into Slovenia they were bloody awful ! As usual we took a wrong turning and had to turn around in a narrow road by a bridge, forgot all about the panniers on the Kwakker and just kissed the wall as I turned… Blast and bugger it!! That’s gonna trigger my ocd something rotten, might have to see if @evoboy will do one of his excellent wrap jobs on the lids .., The first mountain pass we did in Slovenia was an utter nightmare tbh, I think it’s called the Trenta pass on the 206 road between Soca and Kranjska Gora, just an unbelievable amount of traffic on it, motor homes, push bikes, and loads of Harleys as there was a meeting somewhere, getting up it was bad enough, but the downhill side was lethal !! Cobblestone hairpins with a good covering of rubber and diesel, plus everyone swinging wide in the motor homes, view at the top., Made decent progress after that and stopped for a coffee just after the border checkpoint into Austria, when I noticed these two out for a play… I’ll have the Merc thanks very much ! Now we were back in Austria the roads were beautiful and smooth again, and we rode a fantastic route from Seebach on the No95 road up to Turrach and Murau, so good we’re going back tomorrow to do it again , fast and flowing, talk about 1000 yd stare must remember to take my anti-blink pills tonight ! After last nights bloody farce staying in the middle of nowhere, my mate came up trumps tonight,..our very own Castle, or “Schloss” as they are called here,.. https://www.jufahotels.com/en/hotel/roethelstein/ Bloody fabulous it is, plus we got a beer straight away tonight ! Really high up in the mountains View from the bedroom… Possible candidate for “ Shed of the year “ in the car park.. Off to Zell am See tomorrow, two nights in this hotel so I should be able to get my “ Grundys “ rinsed out,…not that they need it of course , laters all
Getting back wheel out to have new tyre fitted - easy as... Getting back wheel back in again - proper tw@t of a job...
I fixed the squeaky noise on the superlight yesterday, it might only be a temporary one, but i smeared some grease on the lower rear shock eye bolt / bush.
Bitten the bullet and ordered some leather trousers. Yes, I’ll look like a twat, but I ride like one, so might as well look the part.
Kind of bike related….ordered bolts for the pani mirrors as I seem to have mis-placed them and they are way too small fucking hate this bike…..so….decided to finish the workbench I built, add faster and paint wood/varnish worktop. Meant fleet needed to be moved outside…first time in a while!
Day 5 - Admont to Zell am see, 196 miles. A pretty quiet day really, just did a bit of mile crunching, a couple of mountain passes that I can’t remember the name of ? I think we’re all getting pretty tired and a bit used to this stunning mountain scenery, so I’ll just put up a few pics from the day.. The more I see of Austria the more I’m impressed, beautiful place, I could cheerfully do a week or so of touring here and Switzerland. The Kawasaki continues to impress as a good comfy bulletproof workhorse and it’s turning in mid 50s mpg and we are lashing along when we can Went for some Food tonight in Zell am see,..Papa Joe’s pizza house Ran by a complete nutter who drank the nights profits! We had a mountain of grub and loads of bottles of beer for 20 Euros a head, crazy! Thunderstorms tonight, so it might delay our trip up the Grossglockner tomorrow , we’ll see Laters people
Day 6 - Just a short run up the Grossglockner this morning, peeing down it was, the guy in the toll booth warned us it was high winds, bad visibility and heavy rain at the top, great .. He wasn’t kidding !! Other people had more sense than to come up it so we more or less had the place to ourselves.. Coffee and cake was much needed.. A swift return to the hotel and we had a quick look around Zell am see.. More food , I had this “ Pinzgauer Kasnocken” very nice and filling it was too A pic of the Pikes Peak for @Multirider75 surprised it didn’t dissolve in all that water this morning ! Tomorrow we start the return leg home 320 miles up to Hiedelburg in Germany,..let’s hope all of those miles are not in the rain
