Just came back off holiday from Sorrento and rented a scooter for a day, not sure what people think of scooters here but it was actually good fun and didn’t hang about unless I had a pillion on the back.
I think they’re great, My wife got a 50cc Vespa to get to work when in 2005 the buses were getting blown up in London, but after a week on the roads decided she retake her chances on the bus, so I started to use her Vespa to commute and when the 50cc died I bought a 2018 300 GTS.
1 week and felt the buses were less risky at least she gave it a go. I like the matt grey, how have you found it for rust? I have every intention of getting a late 60s with the gear changer on the handlebar but they’re quite expensive these days. Also tempted by a modern one too
i was given one of these. fully rebuilt in the workshop (between removing and repairing various body parts) By a mate of mine when he retired and moved away. An Aprilia Habana Custom 125. big Bars, sports exhaust and only needed fuelled up once a year. Great for doing yer bits and bobs around an overcrowded town. just as quick as anything else from the lights and could sit at 65/70 on the open road. customers would walk straight by all the bikes in the workshop and stand and admire it while telling you stories of their youth and their exploits on their scoots. superb.
Every now and again I get a hankering to buy another Lambretta and hoon around like I did as a yoof, but as my wife reminds me "do you really want to spend your 50's pushing the fucking thing home after blowing it up?" She has a point.
chortle. maybe if you started with a good one. and let somebody else with more eh, um... hmm.... with more time? maintain it.
If I'd kept it standard, no problem. But I didn't. Never. I like the Italjets tho. They're pretty funky.
They a lot of fun. Nippy little things Malossi Clutch and Variator, Akrapovic exhaust and Brembo RCS masters.
