So I had the dreaded gear position sensor fail on me day 2 on a 4 day track day . I was carrying a spare as I’d heard the stories…. I disconnected the battery, then removed the faulty sensor and installed the new one. After that i reconnected the battery and rode it around going through the gears so it could learn the gearing. Was a long shot and at first the N (neutral) light stayed on and then suddenly she came back to life. I was over the moon! Moral of the story, is always carry a gear position sensor on European track days . (AND AN ABS SENSOR)
Out of interest did you have the GP sensor air conveyor kit fitted? These were mandated in the US as a factory recall but I am not sure Ducati UK ever implemented it here. Also the QS has heat shield fitted around the body on later models.
It's detailed in the attached PDF There is also an interesting thread on the subject of GPS failures here: https://ducatiforum.com/t/help-need...position-sensor-and-dqs-ducati-v4-2018.39144/
My understanding is that from MY21 bikes, this design has changed slightly to that in the PDF which is for MY18-20. The heat shield around the QS body is just a piece of reflective film, tie wrapped around it. Easy enough to replicate.
Yes mine failed in mugello and hyside fitted a new sensor with the new air vent guide under warranty . So the brand new sensor only lasted 1 day at snetterton and 1.5 days at almeria. Disappointed with this ducati part - Big time . It’s my 2nd sensor to fail. seems they haven’t changed the part number since 2020 either
Kaspar, I'm assuming you had the 'Hirschmann' sensor on your bike, looking at that part number. Allegedly the later 'Novotechnik' sensors are more reliable and the air conveyor kit is not meant to be fitted if that is the sensor on the bike. Saying that the 22 bikes have a slightly different vent setup, so perhaps even these newer sensors are prone to failure and require additional cooling. Did you read the thread on the US forum about heat sinks? It seems even a small stand off from the crankcase surface, might increase the longevity of the sensor's working life.
I am going run all this by the dealership today . I’m going to complain to ducati as well . 5 years ! This should have been solved by now .
This post here shows the air cooler on my bike . Is this an old update and is there a newer style air cooler? https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10183582-0001.pdf
