  1. Hi everyone, finally popped my Ducati cherry and I had no idea it was happening….

Been riding for most my life but 2 years ago we moved house and I ended up selling the last bike I had, I ride in most weathers and love commuting on the bikes.
We bought an old house during the first lockdown and faced all the challenges of the pandemic with our builder, delays etc, utter nightmare and I was itching for another bike.
In July 21 our first son came along and we also bought our next house/project so the bike slipped down the list again. Then in December we found out the baby had Epilepsy and our world changed. My employer has been great and I’ve been off since caring for him day to day and adjusting to our new way of life. We have probably spent 4 months in hospitals since it all began and are so fortunate to live within half an hour of Alder Hey.

In May we sold the house we spent the past year and half renovating and moved into our next project which was not the plan. Uncertainty about future surgery and the crazy hosing market made us sell up and we’re now in a 60s bungalow, one plug socket in each room, draughty floor boards and at the mercy of the local planning office waiting on them to decide on the plans. (9 months so far)

Anyway, fast forward to yesterday. 14th Sept.

I turned 40 on the 12th and told the mrs not to bother with anything, sure enough the day went without fanfare and I went on happily denying I was getting older.

Yesterday we were getting ready to leave for the hospital to go through the up coming brain surgery and the doorbell went, looked out and saw a red transit had backed up the drive. I go out to see a ramp and the back end of the bike, it was only a bloody Streetfighter V2!!
I felt sick and I was/am an emotional wreck, it’s still not really sank in

Turns out she ordered it months ago and I had no idea.

A Big thank you to Ducati Manchester and Mark who dropped the bike off. I’ve still not sat on the bloody thing.
Hopefully I still fit into my bike gear which is still in the storage unit then I can get busy running it in.

Last thing, anyone know of any Evotech radiator guards that are in stock? I’m reluctant to ride it without them but I can’t wait to get out on it

  4. Welcome to the forum.:)

  5. Thanks guys, in late November 2019 she passed her bike test but never got a bike. When I get back to work I’ll have to return the gesture, or at least let her take the V2 out.
Her dad was an avid biker, kept putting the bikes off for to work/family then a stroke stopped him riding and he passed away at 50, changed her way of thinking and I can see why.

  9. Welcome and congratulations! That’s a wonderful intro, sorry to hear about your little ‘un. As a parent of a daughter with heavy ASD it’s not easy and these things can be quite consuming, our bikes are our little escape and freedom from the harsh reality that we face before returning to duty as a steadfast parent.

Enjoy every second of your new toy, and best wishes to you both on your journey with the nipper.

  11. If that is the sort of present she gets you I think you ought to make the arrangements more permanent!

  12. Greetings!

You've had some big ups and downs in the last year but I can tell from your post you're still smiling. Well done -mot everyone can do that.

In the meantime get down to the storage, get your jacket & lid, & get on the bike & ride.

    PS.
The rad guards are nice, but don't let a lack of them stop you from doing what you know you must ASAP Plus arrange some insurance for both of you!

  13. Ah that was you on the Facebook page? Welcome anyway :)

  14. Great opening post. Good luck to you and your family.

  15. Saw that on Facebook this morning and I thought, you lucky sod!
Enjoy it while you can mate, the older they get, the less generous they become! :p.
    Congrats on the bike btw.

  17. On Facebook! Like they say, if it’s not on Facebook it didn’t really happen.

I remember the delivery guy took a picture but I was more concerned about being late for the hospital and I was standing in moss with no socks on

I don’t really bother with Facebook so I haven’t seen it, the Mrs just confirmed she said it’s ok to use the picture. Famous at last….

Thank you all for the kind words, just got back from the unit with my gear. I’ll make sure it fits in the morning then it’s off for a week to get PPF fitted.
