Engine and Frame Numbers

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by Lumbux, May 10, 2013.

  1. Just had a look at my frame and engine number and they are not the same. My frame number is 000448, but the engine number is 000477. Bit confused, as I thought they should be the same. Is this the same with any one else's?

  2. They very rarely, if ever match. Don't worry 'bout it.

  5. Lumbux,

When I bought mine it came up that there was a problem with the HPI search and it flagged up some problem.

After a bit of messing about the problem was the information the HPI people and DVLA held was the "short" VIN and engine numbers i.e. just the last 6 digits. This ended up being the same as a Renault Megane and Kawasaki on the system which had finance and been stolen.

The owner ended up writing a letter and taking a photo of the full VIN and engine numbers and I think there was a form he filled in and sent it to the DVLA to get the full numbers on the V5 and system.

    Cheers Gaz

  6. Now you come to mention it Gaz, my log book only has numbers on, but the bike has letters and numbers. Mines HPI clear so not too worried, I have all three log books and their all the the same.

  7. Lumbux,

No Problem just wanted to mention it for you and others. I bought my bike of this older block thought he was a genuine nice guy but the search came back with problems, I also thought the HPI checks were gospel, but now don't after my experience. Probably I am saying don't turn a deal down if the HPI comes back with problems (I nearly did) investigate further there could be a genuine reason.

    Cheers Gaz

  8. Hello all!,
can anyone recommend a site to enable me to check up on frame/engine numbers to clarify that the bike is legitimate, not stolen and is what the seller says the model is?
    cheers for your help.
