Hey, I looked, and couldn't find an existing thread on the new Monster SP. I find this a very odd addition. I've always wanted S models of the smaller bikes (which is why I jumped on the 959 Corse), and would have gone for a Streetfighter V2 S if there was one. So for Ducati to release a SP version of their smallest bike just seems odd. Hopefully they will add more S / SP models to the range between the smallest and biggest bikes, and I'll finally be happy - with clear coat too, please!
Yeah, another odd move, but perhaps not as Odd as releasing a £55k Streetfighter painted by stevie wonder.... I agree it should have been released as a 'S' model, inline with the supersport and supersport s models, the 'SP' Monika should really be reserved for homolgation specials, like the 'R' should.
Im finding it very hard to be "inspired" by yet another bit of badge engineering from the Audi/Ducati branding machine, especially for a bike that if you removed the Ducati badge from the tank could be just about any generic bike, I know it rides well but it lacks any sort of Italian styling to me no matter if you give it a new badge and a lick of paint!
The OE Kabya front and rear suspension on the M/M+ are awful and needlessly basic. From my perspective, the suspension is the one thing that lets a remarkable little bike down. Can only hope they offer an Öhlins lowering cartridge kit and rear shock which they currently don't. Andy
I have a 2021 Monster+, and won't be trading it in for an SP. For me the brakes and suspension are great already, and at £14k the new bike is getting on towards some very serious machinery! I will be keeping my one for a while yet
My missus, who knows nothing about bikes, still slightly in shock that I haven't killed myself yet.... She thought it looks very cool. So, it's aimed at Mid 30's women... I guess...
Has anyone noticed (with the Monster SP in mind) how it's getting increasingly difficult NOT to spend £14k+ on a Ducati. I realise all bikes have been getting more expensive but I would say Ducati have less bikes in the budget area and far more in the upper middle
The new Monster is a brilliant bike. I guess this will be a little more brilliant. Those who doubt its ability should try one, you will be shocked by how much fun it is and how quick it is on British roads.
Couldn't agree more, but no Ducati bragging rights As the SP has bits I like and must make a great bike even better, I may treat myself next year! I'm even beginning to like the styling too
Seriously considering one, my age is beginning to tell and I find my 1200S a little heavy for manoeuvring.
Go and try one, you won't regret it. I swapped a Triumph Speed Triple R in for mine for much the same reason, and I've done over 6000 happy miles in the first year. Light, easy to push about. and a whole load of fun!
