Ok I am now back in UK (after 12 years in Greece and using USA forum) still no joy in stopping mirrors twisting inwards at speed? any advice guys I have heard the "sand down the balls" option but to be honest I am really thinking of after market mirrors now? (its a 1000ss/ds by the way) thanks guys
Take them off and remove the arm from the socket by taking out the bloody silly self tapper............ Then get an M4 or M5 tap (sorry, can't recall what I used) and tap the arm to take a suitable bolt........Mine have cross-head countersunk ones in there, about 30mm long at least...........they stay where they should........if you tighten them up enough. AL
Had exactly the same problem and received exactly the same advice and it works. The knowledge and friendly advice on this sub site is second to none. Cheers Tim
Thanks guys, but perhaps I am dumb ass? not quite sure what you mean by "get an M4 or M5 tap" or even " tap the arm to take a suitable bolt" again sorry for being think lol ;-)
I actually didn't re-tap my mirrors, but took the bolts out re-torqued with thread lock from memory no problems since, but they will never be brilliant, will investigate a mirror swap long term
By brilliant I mean more elbow and arm than rear view . Just wanted to ride. Got to say in the 50 odd bikes I have owned I have only ever had 3 bikes that I loved to ride as much, My T120, my Lc's and my CB1100R, this makes me feel like a kid again. I finally understand at 44 Ducati's.
Tried tightening the stupid self tappers to no avail. Eventually smeared balls with wood and laminate flooring gap sealant (the mirrors that is) as it claims to be permanently flexible. So far (6 months) so good.
Mine have gone all chocolate-teapot style again. I think Arquebus has the best solution no doubt, but before tapping the little fighters I am gonna try threadlock and sealant.
