V4 V4 Fuel Range Inc Reserve

  1. Hi All

I have a 2018 model with a 16 litre fuel tank. A while ago I ran out of fuel when the reserve trip hit 28 or so miles.

Going forward in time to last week I had used about 23 miles of my trip reserve and went to fill up but could only get 13.2 Ltrs in the tank….. granted the bike was on the side stand at a slight lean angle but I wouldn’t have thought that would have caused a discrepancy of just under 3 ltrs

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

    Nick

  2. You were maybe a bit ham fisted first time you hit reserve and later conked out. This time maybe subconsciously less so.

  3. The quoted tank capacity of bikes is never quite what the manfucaturers claim.

  4. It will vary quite a bit depending how you are riding it, i know on mine I’ve found as soon as it hits reserve find a petrol station, don’t take a chance. The fuel is hideous anyway, and don’t ever rely on manufacturers figures

  5. got to use the old sit and wobble between the legs filling routine... You'll get lots of bubbles and brim it that way

One thing I have noticed, is that Super gets me about 8 to 10 miles more before reserve... so what.. 10% more ? Probably worth it over E10

  6. The v4 is defo much better than the 1299 which I've currently got wouldn't trust any of the larger cc pani's going along way on fuel especially on reserve, forget what the figures say you cant win slow or fast speed they are thirsty as you found out. On the v4 I had got max 90 miles before hitting reserve then it was squeaky bum time haha.

  7. I found my fuel light fear disappeared once I realised at what point it actually comes on. The 1299 tank is 17L, the fuel light comes on when there's 5L remaining so its a lot more of a reserve than you may think. I believe it's similar on the v4, so at the fuel light coming on you've only used 11 of your 16L capacity. So for me, the light usually comes on between 90-100m with road riding, so technically I'd have 37-41m of range on reserve, not that I've ever tested that theory beyond 25 or so

  8. Yeah and that's the confusing thing for me as at a steady to slow riding pace once the reserve light came on, I only got late 20's before the bike ran out completely and then when I fill up at the pump it only says I'm putting 13 or so litres in when the Ducati spec sheet says the 2018 model has a 16 ltr tank

  9. I had my 1299 light come on at 80/85 and got another 20 miles before i bottled it. filled up and got 14 litres in it.

  10. Even though I put in the whatever it's called now super unleaded my 1299 seems worse now that the fuel has changed , doesnt seem to go as far now . My car is much worse aswell putting in the diluted unleaded we are all using now.
As soon as my 1299 reserve light appears I hit a petrol station within 15 miles at a relative slow riding pace . We all know the big twin is a thirsty beast and the v4 is a bit better but if you use all the horses well I guess what do we expect.
