A few months ago I came into possession of a 1098S and gradually have been working over it and checking that all is ok. The bike is fitted with the full Termi pipework but appears to have the standard ECU fitted. According to the documentation that came with the bike the ECU was “Custom mapped” in 2021 with map 2237BA7LN37. I have done a bit of research and if a full system had been fitted I should have the 1098 Race ECU (Part number 96518607B) to make it a full system. I don’t know much about ECU’s and mapping so just looking for some knowledgeable input from anybody that can help. Is there anything I should be concerned about with this set-up? The bike seems to run fine however the fuel consumption is excessive. Whoever had the flash done also had it Dyno tested and there is a increase in torque and power following the re-flashing.
My 1098s have full system with race ecu. I can check which part number i have next time I'm with the bike. What is your engine temperature according to the display? 1098 have a problem where the display under read engine temperature and thus running rich all the time. There is this mod of the temperature sensor housing which i will try out. If outside temperature is under 25 c my bike never reach over 72 c will moving according to the display. https://www.ducati.org/threads/engine-low-temp.13944/
whats written on the ecu and whats in the ecu may bear no resemblance, you just need the AFR to be correct. Make enquiries around the Dyno location and date, they will probably have your bike saved on their system and can verify the info.
I had an ECU for the slash cuts on my 1198. I fitted the 70mm and took it to CJS in bristol. Thus my slash cut ecu was tuned. So it may be the case its is also done, but my ECU had the proper message put on. 1198 Racing I think.
Thanks for the response. I've not really noticed anything odd about the temperature reading but its certainly going above 72 deg and the fan is coming on in stationary traffic, I've got a ride coming up next week so I'll monitor the temp carefully. I'll have a read of the thread you have provided.
Thanks for the feedback. Whats an "AFR"? I'm going to give the people who did the flash a call today.
Mine only comes up with the standard message, but I believe the Race ECU comes up with "Ducati Racing" or similar.
2237BA7LN37 is a stock map ref. What is the start up message? Your info is that it has been custom mapped. How the bike runs would be a good indication that the fuelling has been set up right. A stock map would run lean and should manifest itself as popping/banging on deceleration. If not doing that then good chance it has been done. Do you have access to JPDiag? Tuners tend to alter the reference data inside an ECU leaving their details and when tuned.
Am I write in thinking that the ECU hardware is standard, its the software that has been flashed into it that determines if its the standard ECU or the Race ECU?
The message at StartUp is "Ducati" and there is no popping and banging on deceleration. I dont have access to JPDiag Tuners is it a specialist piece of hardware? I do have the details of the tuner and was going to give them a call today.
All Ducati ECUs are not equal. The 1098 uses an ECU from the IAW5AM family. There are two different hardware types within that family. Your bike uses the HW610 but there is also the HW103. The two are not directly interchangeable.
If it only says Ducati then it has been reflashed by someone. The stock message is something like 1098 SBK TSE.
Just do not buy an IAW5AMHW103. The good thing with the ECUs fitted to your bike is that they are virgin. That means if you buy a second hand Ducati Performance ECU for your Termis it will be plug and play (a TPS is recommended but not essential)
This is exactly my dilemma. Do I run with the flash in my standard ECU in the knowledge that its going to be OK or do I invest in a second hand Ducati Performance ECU which is what it should have had in the first place.
