  1. Ducati Forum Rules & Information
Above all else Ducati Forum serves to provide a safe, secure and friendly environment for Ducati fans of all ages to share and discover their love for Ducati, through news, videos, content and discussion. A constructive, respectful and welcoming approach is required from all members at all times. in both forum posts and private conversations. The forum rules are a general guide about what we do and do not expect from members, it is not an exhaustive list and moderators will sometimes make decisions independent of the rules. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the rules please Contact Us. Thank you!

Regarding the deleting of phone numbers and or email addresses as per forum rules we try to keep you as safe as we are able and following recent scammers and nuisance calls we will delete numbers/emails in public domain
To keep you safe you have a PM function and would strongly suggest using it

  2. I had my facebook listing compromised years ago with bits of info
I don't use any social media sites now, this forum is about it.
    Keep the bastards out

  3. You deleted my comment on how i thought it was wrong you chose to delete a phone number on advert.
You seem to forget that it is the advertiser's personal choice and they have chosen to put their number on .
    Their choice.
Most people on here are savvy enough to know the score on scammers. We are not 15 years olds.

You should either change the forum rules in which the phone numbers are not allowed or let it go.
Its the advertisers choice . Not yours.

You say that strongly suggest people use PM's yet you then do something that MAKES them !!!!!

  5. Why would you give a potential scammer another bit of info.
Surely a PM is the place to exchange such details?

  6. How does a PM stop someone scamming you? And aren’t new members restricted for PMs?

Ebay don’t like phone numbers only coz you then buy off the site and don’t pay fees. Yet people go to all sorts of lengths to get one on there. Because that’s how many communicate.

If I put an ad up, I want it to be easy to contact me and always add my phone number. Yes you get knobheads but you get those more online than on the phone.

  7. Should people decide to display their personal email and phone numbers could lead to cyber fraud/scamming etc. and some people on the site have subjected to that already with some losing substantial amounts of money.

By not keeping our members information secure as best we can it could be argued that we are negligible, or complicit and therefore liable. All we are trying to do is mitigate that potential situation occurring.

Any financial matters between members should be carried out privately and the medium of PM is the best way. And I’d suggest that due diligence is carried out by members themselves before parting with any money.

  8. "Scammers can clone telephone numbers of organisations they want to impersonate and make the number appear on your caller ID display."

    https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/phone-scams-and-cold-calls

When Jo bloggs posts his number publicly on a forum which may include other identifiable information, all of that can be used to scam people
They can use Jo bloggs number to call you identify themselves using information gleaned and you would be none the wiser never having met JoBloggs personally

Excuse me for wanting to keep our forum members safe
The best of us can get scammed
I will continue to keep our forum members as safe as I can while using the forum

The OP was contacted by PM and was happy that I took his mobile number out of view
He also redacted information from pictures that could identify him

We ALL post at times without thinking

  10. Just a thought.

I'm assuming the Duty of care type regulations being pushed by the authorities on to the likes of Facebook etc(Quite rightly IMO) will also apply to this Forum and others like it.
So personal responsibility will have to be taken by the owners/mods with regard to protection and security of it's users.
Not something I'd want to take on responsibility wise, and it will have to involve more 'Rules' being imposed and enforced.

So if I give my address to somebody who's been approved as a user on here by 'The mods' in order that they post me some parts, but they then come and rob me, can I bring legal proceedings against the site for not protecting me?

  11. I think maybe people are missing the wider implications here, as in the scenario where all members can freely list their personal contact details, this site over time could then become the mecca for sharks looking to use details for other means, with a corresponding increase in unwanted traffic. As above post and further:- it's down to the site owner at the end of the day, not the individual. Going by above posts, probably best to make non-disclosure compulsory.

  12. You need to make a choice.
If the forum owners say that phone numbers should not be included in adverts then ok. The advertiser knows that .
But the advertiser has chosen to put it in. Its their choice.
The mods then think they know more / dont like it and change it .

Unless you change the rules , which is fair enough, then its big brother thinking it knows best and in the days of dwindling forum numbers and the increase of that crappy FB isnt a good thing.

  13. ^ i'll speak for myself, but I swear at sites etc insisting on passwords before allowing access, forgetting that they are there for my benefit, Ditto with this issue..

"But the advertiser has chosen to put it in. Its their choice."

^ as said, ultimately it's not their choice, and even if allowed to (include personal details), it wouldn't be the first time that the same person turns round and resorts to legal action against site owner when robbed as a result. Outbursts of "You should have prevented me from including my details, how was I supposed to know??" etc.

  14. Enjoy that bike while you can. ‘For your own good’ takes away personal responsibility. It’s happening more and more, and it’s small steps to places you won’t want to be: like banning bikes becaue they are dangerous or forcing speed restrictors (which has been coming for years).

I thought this place and people who run it were different. Like the pub in most respects.

    Seems Maybe I’m wrong.

  15. Once again you are missing the point.

What are you going to do if someone puts an ad on saying " i dont come on site much so give us a ring on 3745374637 after 6 " ?

If someone puts an brand new Arai lid on for £300 , are you going to take that down as its too cheap and you think another forum member might be getting scammed ?

A few week s/ months ago you changed a title of a thread on here. It wasn't in the wrong section , it didnt break the rules but you chose to change it as you thought it was a better title.

Your starting to come across as a parking attendant that couldn't become a police man . ( sorry police woman )

  18. but it is just like “down the pub” in that respect Paul? Viv and Terry openly post on threads after they have removed personal details, keeping everyone informed instead of sneakily deleting and removing and not telling anyone*.

Ditto this very thread, which has been left open instead of a dictating sticky with no possibility of replying.

    * if they had done this, then possibly none of this criticism would have arisen.
