  3. Heelan coos. Nice…

  4. Eh!? Kinda bloke are you? The first thing I check is how fast it goes. Which hasn’t changed since I was about 10…

  5. Ahggrrrghhh, cars

Lady Nasher and I have been drifting our conversation over to cars more often than usual lately because we have some decisions to make soon, and it’s making my head hurt.
I realise these are proper 1st world issues by the way.

Lady Nasher currently has a 19plate 3dr Mini Cooper Works edition, which is a great car to drive, I enjoy borrowing it, but we promised ourselves we'd not fall onto our old trap of keeping cars for many years with me spending more and more time and money keeping them going. We brought the Mini as an ex-demonstrator with a great warranty and it's been brilliant not worrying about it.

But, she's an ideal candidate for an EV, and would really like an Electric Mini.
She hardly uses it at the weekends, and just does @18m to work and back 5 days a week.
Crucially, at the moment anyway, she could charge it at work for free, so her fuel costs would suddenly be minimal.
But, occasionally she drives up to see her parents or our son, both of who are @100 miles away, and would have to find a way to charge it whilst she was visiting.
She could use my car for long trips, but it’s not that suitable and she doesn’t like parking it.

  6. And my Discovery is now 7yrs old with 71k miles on it, and from experience will start to cost me more time and money each month to keep going.
Despite being permanent 4x4 and a twin Turbo V6 3l Diesel it still does mid-30s mpg on a run lightly loaded, or even late 20's around town.
But obviously it's not exactly very friendly to the local wildlife or the planet. I do love it though.
I'd like to change it for a newer, used, hybrid Landie, but nothing in the range does everything I need.

I need to tow over 3tns, sometimes on rough ground, wet slipways, and across the beach.
Because of this I need a low ratio option and always run All terrain tyres.
I need to be able to put the 2nd and 3rd row seats down into a completely flat load surface.
I need 7 full size seats occasionally.
I need to be able to get out of our road when it snows, which is more often than you’d think in our little micro-climate.
I need to be able to use the odd green lane.
My Discovery does all this and a lot more, in great comfort with every toy and Gizmo, including a fantastic full fibre-optic sound system.

Discounting the smaller LRs on towing capacity and Load size etc.
The new full size Discovery(5) looks awful, and the tailgate shape is now too tapered at the top to be able to insert a large item of furniture or Box shaped load. There are also other smaller issues I don’t like.

I’d love a Full size Range Rover TDV8 Hybrid, but the 2nd row seats don’t fold completely flat.

I’m probably going to have to settle for a new style Defender Hybrid at some stage, with a decent sized Diesel in it, but the LWB version comes with 5 seats that fold completely flat, OR 7 seats that do not fold completely flat. You can't have both. And the load space is significantly smaller than my Discovery.

So it looks like I’ll be keeping my current Discovery going for a while

  7. Fine. RS6 it is then…

    Next!!

  8. My T6 is 4WD Nasher...although tbh its as likely to see anything other than the gravel on a campsite. Wifey did get it stuck in a farmers field though. I got the sos phone call...She drove it straight into the dip in the 'lower field' where water usually lingers and sunk straight down to the floor pan. Farmer towed her out. I asked her why she didnt test the ground first and I wish I hadnt.

  9. it's not for me. it's for the wifes birthday. apparantly.
i've got a 20v fiat coup for fundays and sundays. cars mostly suck.

  10. I test drove a more modern version but didn’t like it as much as the OG, the R53. They’ve grown too big and heavy, the tail lights look awful and the turbo engine is a bit dull compared to the supercharged version, which is pretty manic, especially when fitted with a smaller pulley.

  13. I went to the open down in Kent last year. Coming back we were still stuck at the Dartford bridge at midnight, over 7 hours after we left the venue and all I could think of was why didn’t I take my fucking bike, even though I went with my 80 year old Dad. Steam literally coming out my ears haha.

  14. What pissed me off is that she demanded a 4wd T6, even though thats top of the range and blew our budget into touch, only for her to go out and camp on her 1st fucking outing and gets stuck.

I admit to guffawing my tits off at home. Oh that was a happy day.

  16. I (inadvertently) drove mine up Hard Knot pass in the Lake District last week. Quite stressful I must say. Won’t be trying that again unless I get 4WD o_O

  17. I hate to be a 4-Ball-Paul, but I did the even higher Kirkstone Pass last February in my 30 year old, Chinese-tyred 65bhp 3.5 ton shed on wheels in a storm that kept cycling between rain, sleet, snow and hail. It was also going dark too.

Oddly, our trip over the pass was also inadvertent but once we were on it there was nowhere to safely turn round (zero rear visibility) and the lanes branching off looked even sketchier so we just had to keep buggering on until we reached Ambleside.

  18. I get an average 39mpg from mine. But I dont use it to commute (I walk). Only issue I find is leaky kombi windows, which you need to poke and clean out the drain holes now and again. The EXV valve may need cleaning, a 20 mile run does the trick.

  19. meh, i'v driven mine up BenNevis. gerrit right up ye.
