V4 Pv4 Base Wheels Vs Carbon

  1. Anyone done this upgrade and have feedback on how night and day it is? Or isn't?

I'm contemplating it but I've heard feedback from "even base wheels are so light these days you won't notice the change" to "it made the bike so much more responsive I had to adjust my riding style to compensate".

there's also wildly varying weight data but after mining form posts on this site and others I think we're in the ballpark of:

    Base front 2.68 Kg
    base rear 4.13 Kg

    BST raid tek front 2.56
    bst rear 2.74

OZ Gass and 4S March's being somewhere in between...but if i'm gonna spend that much on wheels i'd rather spend another little bit and go full carbon or just keep the stockers.

I'm nearly all street...medium to aggressive riding style.

  2. Though I've not got a v4 ,I have had bikes with carbon wheels, and for me personally I didn't find much difference after fitting them. (Road bike only) prob different on track. I'd spend the money on decent suspension before wheels.

  3. Personally I'd go for the Oz in Gold. They look snazzy. After all, its prob looks more than performance youre after.

But they look cool (carbon) but its personal preference. I prefer alloy. Others prefer carbon. Ultimately its up to your preference. Either look cool. But I agree with Cooky. I'd get base susp sorted first. Then a set of wheels. Or do both.

  4. I have the magnesium alloy option wheels on my V4. I chose to use the forged aluminium alloy W spoke base wheels for track. Purely my opinion, I think UK roads are appalling and wouldn’t chance carbon or ultra light weight wheels for fear of damaging them. Andy

  5. My experience on a circuit only, I notice the difference between the std cast wheels and lighter alternative. Turn in and change of direction mainly and a little more ease of adjustability in long fast corners too.

Personally I’m running OZ’s or would have gone Dynomag. Marginal difference between them but in comparison to Carbon they have greater lifespan and put up with more abuse.

  6. I’ve always gone with lighter wheels on cars and it’s always made a noticeable difference. My bike came with carbon wheels and I was quite surprised at just how well it turns, although I’ve not tried a V4 with standard wheels to compare. They look great as well.
