I’ve changed my forks on my 748 for 999 ohlins. I’ve put disc spacers in so the rotors sit nicely in the callipers but I’m having a clash with the speedo drive. Is there a solution to this or do I need to buy offset rotors from a 996 / 748 R?
Can’t quite see where the interference problem is from that pic. As you are likely aware, 748/9*6 speedo drive is quite tight even with standard set up and requires careful placement.
There’s a spacer with the 999 axle. I’ve removed it so speedo drives fits in place. The issue is to use Radial brakes the offset for the disc is different so I’ve spaced the disc which means the bolts fouls the drive. I’ve seen solutions to this on threads before and hop g someone can enlighten me as I can’t for the life of me find it.
The discs been moved out to match the offset for the radials and the disc bolts are fouling the drive. I’ll post a pic of it tomorrow
Yeah I was thinking of doing that but don’t fancy messing up the drive. Any pics of yours? Did it effect the drive at all?
Not sure if it helps but when I fitted 1098 Ohlins forks to a 998, I had to fit the R spec discs to get the correct offset & I don’t recall having an issue fitting the standard speedo cable, although the routing was a little different.
@jcw 1098R discs have the same offset as all other 848/1*98 and 749/999. @stonie748 - didn’t affect the drive. No pics, it’s was years ago. Sorry.
I had a similar problem when fitting replacement Brembo Discs to my 916 because there was no recess in the disc carrier as there was with the original cast iron disc carriers. Replacing the original bolts with some domed button headed ones (supplied by Nelly) gave the required clearance. This may, or may not work for you depending on how much more clearance you need.
I ended up fitting 998R discs which I recall have a 15mm offset - speedo cable fed past without an issue.
You need to use low profile cap head or mushroom headed bolts. Even fitting stock cap head causes interference issues on 748/996 stock setup.
I've put domes on it, still fouling. It's more the disc spacer thickness that's pushing out everything. I think I need to forget spacer and put on R spec discs to gain the offset
Cheers JCW I think that's possibly the best solution. It's definitely fouling because the disc spacer is pushing the disc out and forcing the bolts out by a few mm. I'll hunt out a set. Cheers
