Restoring a 996 1999 frame and wheels with that matt bronze/gold colour. Am I wasting time trying to find a powder coat firm to colour match. So far they can't get that closes and use something called RAL colours. So, I found someone who can wet paint in a ducati bronze colour. Is paint durable enough for a frame and wheels? Does anyone know the actual colour code or name of that 996 bronze colour ?
I thought they were wet painted from the factory rather than powder coated. A good 2pac paint should be strong enough.
i used RAL 1035 on the rear half of this frame. You can see it's a bit glossier than the front but the colour is very close. The aerosol was 2k and I gave it a 2k clear coat which was satin, I would use matt if I did it again.
I used a powder base, green cured, PPG Ducati colour, Pre heated again and hit it with a satin powder clear coat. I was more than happy with it, other also commented on how it looked.
I was also looking to restore the frame of a 996. This guy said he could do it, but he wasn't sure the colour was still available. http://startwintechniek.nl/ He has a shop in Netherland, so probably not so convenient for you

Only reasonable photo I've got but it is original factory paint after I cleaned it up when I first got the bike in 2009.
Close to perfect colour and gloss match is possible with powder but you need to work with a company as bothered about it as you are. Ducati frames arrived in several noticeably different shades of beige, even within the same model and year (though not quite as varied as their yellow )
Good pic I think Ducati still have the colour as it looks close/same as the Multi V4 RHS clutch cover case though its still probably not listed/published as a paint code :/
