Hi, getting to the point of reassembling this old 996 that had sat in a garden for 15 years rotting. I thought I would take the time to lay out all the various pieces to see what a 996 looks like fully dismantled. Looking forward rebuilding now and hearing her fire up for the first time in 15 years! video here:-

Nice to see it all laid out like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Though if it had started to rain while you were filming this, I can imagine it would have been a mad dash to get everything back indoors! Surprisingly good condition for a bike that's been outside for that long. If you are still after some obscure bolts, then I still have quite a large selection on my website BTW. Looks like a fun rebuild. I'd love to do a nuts and bolts rebuild of a 916SPS at some point. Good luck with the build....Topo
I used RAL1035. I would say it's slightly more beige than the original, but I think once everything is built up it will look about right. I think the real colour sites somewhere between RAL1035 & 1036, but they dont make that in powders. hope it helps

Mostly. it's had a full top end strip down. Heads, barrels, cams, followers all removed. Some cam followers replaced, new gaskets throughout, belts, plugs, valve clearances all re-shimmed etc. The rest of the engine just cleaned and tidied up as much as possible. It's not perfect and would have liked to do a full strip down of that, but it is beyond my capability and would have added a grand or two on costs, so seeing as it's a low mileage engine the top end service should be fine. It looks so much better than it did when we started!

Wonderful work !!! Keep us posted on progress. Did you restore in some way front fork sleeves ? mine shows corrosion and I would appreciate tip to restore them
Hi Max, No, I looked into it, but it's expensive to get them stripped and re-anodized etc. To buy new forks it's around £2k from Ducati, so the best option is to keep and eye on ebay and find a decent second hand set. Somewhere between £300-£500 will get you some near mint ones, but they dont come up very often. Hope this helps
